Nadzca'an
Nadzca'an is a Maya archaeological site located in the Balam Kú Biosphere Reserve of Campeche in Mexico. Nadzca'an was a classical period Maya city and ceremonial center built over an artificial plateau. It is located approximately 12 km northeast of the Maya site of Balamku. Numerous stelas have been found inside the main structures of the site, a mention to the emblem glyph of Calakmul is found carved on a monument from Nadzca'an. Architecture The archaeological site of Nadzca'an is divided into three architectural groups named Ah Kin, Chi'ik and Río Bec, which host two plazas, a ball court and several monumental buildings. The Ah Kin group is the main architectural group of the site and has structures from the early Classic to the late Classic periods. Balamku
Balamku is a small Maya archaeological site located in the Mexican state of Campeche.Rodríguez Campero 2008, p. 437. It features elaborate plaster facades dating to the Early Classic period. It has one of the largest surviving stucco friezes in the Maya world. Balamku was first occupied from around 300 BC. Its most important buildings date from AD 300–600. Location Balamku is located north of the ruins of the great Maya city of Calakmul, approximately the same distance west of Becan, west of Xpujil and southeast of the ruins of Nadzca'an. Calakmul
Calakmul (; also Kalakmul and other less frequent variants) is a Maya civilization, Maya archaeological site in the Mexican state of Campeche, deep in the jungles of the greater Petén Basin region. It is from the Guatemalan border. Calakmul was one of the largest and most powerful Maya city, ancient cities ever uncovered in the Mayan Lowlands, Maya lowlands. Calakmul was a major Maya power within the northern Petén Basin region of the Yucatán Peninsula of southern Mexico. Calakmul administered a large domain marked by the extensive distribution of their emblem glyph of the snake head sign, to be read "Kaan". Maya Civilization
The Maya civilization () was a Mesoamerican civilization that existed from antiquity to the early modern period. It is known by its ancient temples and glyphs (script). Calakmul Municipality
Calakmul is a municipality in the Mexican state of Campeche, situated in the central part of the Yucatán Peninsula. History The municipality was created on 31 December 1996, from part of the territory of Champotón. On 19 June 1998, the State Congress enacted legislation creating the new municipality of Candelaria as of 1 July of that year, and Calakmul lost 24% of its population and a portion of its territory. Geography The municipality of Calakmul borders to the east with Quintana Roo (municipalities of José María Morelos, Bacalar, and Othón P. Blanco) and Belize (Orange Walk District); to the south with Guatemala (Petén Department); and to the north and west with other municipalities in Campeche ( Candelaria, Champotón, Escárcega and Hopelchén).
