Nacozari De García
Nacozari de García is a small mining town in the northeast of the List of states of Mexico, Mexican state of Sonora. It serves as the municipal seat for the surrounding municipality of the same name. Geography The municipal seat had a population of 11,193 in 2000. It is located at an elevation of 1,040 meters. The municipal area is 3,069.52 km² with a population of 14,363 registered in 2000. The land is mountainous and is part of the spurs of the Sierra Madre Occidental mountains. There is a reservoir La Angostura, which dams up the Río Bavispe. Communications The municipal seat and main settlement is on Mexican Federal Highway 17, Federal Highway 17, which connects Agua Prieta with Hermosillo. The distance to Agua Prieta is 123 kilometers. Opata Language
Ópata (also Tegüima, Teguima, Tehuima, Tehui, Jova, Joval, Tonichi, Sonori and Ure; ) is either of two closely related Uto-Aztecan languages, ''Teguima'' and '' Eudeve'', spoken by the Opata people of northern central Sonora in Mexico and Southeast of Arizona in the United States. It was believed to be dead already in 1930, and Carl Sofus Lumholtz reported the Opata to have become "Mexicanized" and lost their language and customs already when traveling through Sonora in the 1890s. Buckingham Smith translated ''Grammatical Sketch of the Heve Language'' from an unpublished Spanish manuscript and it was published in 1861. In a 1993 survey by the Instituto Nacional Indigenista, 15 people in the Mexican Federal District self-identified as speakers of Ópata. This may not mean, however, that the language was actually living, since linguistic nomenclature in Mexico is notoriously fuzzy. Arizpe is a municipality in the state of Sonora in north-western Mexico. The municipality of Arizpe is one of the 72 municipalities of the state of Sonora, located in the north-central region of the state in the Sierra Madre Occidental area. Cumpas is a municipality in the state of Sonora in north-western Mexico. The municipal seat is at Cumpas. Geography The area of the municipality is 2,013.50 km2., which represents 1.09% of the state total and 0.10% of the national total. Nopal
''Nopal'' (plural ''nopales'') is a common name in Spanish for ''Opuntia'' cacti (commonly referred to in English as prickly pear or tender cactus), as well as for its pads. The name ''nopal'' derives from the Nahuatl word for the pads of the plant. Description There are about 114 known species in Mexico, where it is a common ingredient in numerous Mexican cuisine dishes. The ''nopal'' pads can be eaten raw or cooked, used in marmalades, soups, stews and salads, as well as being used for traditional medicine or as fodder for animals. Farmed ''nopales'' are most often of the species '' Opuntia ficus-indica'' or '' Opuntia matudae'' although the pads of almost all ''Opuntia'' species are edible. The other edible part of the ''nopal'' cactus is the fruit, called in Spanish and "prickly pear" in English.
