"First Flight" is the fiftieth episode of the American science fiction television series '' Star Trek: Enterprise'', the twenty-fourth episode of the second season. It first aired on May 14, 2003, on UPN. It was written by John Shiban and Chris Black, and was directed by '' Star Trek: The Next Generation'' actor LeVar Burton (Geordi La Forge). Set in the 22nd century, the series follows the adventures of the first Starfleet starship ''Enterprise'', registration NX-01. In this episode, after Captain Jonathan Archer (Scott Bakula) is informed of the death of his former colleague, A.G. Robinson (Keith Carradine), he relates the story of breaking the warp 2.5 barrier to T'Pol (Jolene Blalock) while investigating a dark matter nebula. Enterprise (NX-01)
''Enterprise'' (NX-01) is the fictional spaceship that serves as the primary setting of the American science fiction television series '' Star Trek: Enterprise''. The ship predates the other Starfleet ships named ''Enterprise'' and was first seen in the pilot episode " Broken Bow". Its missions included an initial period of deep space exploration and a mission into the Delphic Expanse following the Xindi attack on Earth; it was also instrumental in the formation of the United Federation of Planets with the Vulcans, Andorians and Tellarites. The fictional technology in ''Star Trek'' has borrowed many ideas from the scientific world. Episodes often contain technologies named after or inspired by real-world scientific concepts, such as tachyon beams, baryon sweeps, quantum slipstream drives, and photon torpedoes. Jonathan Archer
Jonathan Archer is a fictional character in the ''Star Trek'' franchise. He is one of the protagonists of the television series '' Star Trek: Enterprise'', where he was portrayed by Scott Bakula. Archer was the commanding officer of the first starship '' Enterprise'' (NX-01) from 2151 to 2161. Archer also played a major role in the formation of Starfleet and the United Federation of Planets, and was later President of the United Federation of Planets from 2184 to 2192. Shuttlecraft are fictional vehicles in the ''Star Trek'' science fiction franchise built for short trips in space, such as between a planetary surface and orbit.
