NHL On CBS
The ''NHL on CBS'' is the branding used for broadcasts of National Hockey League (NHL) games produced by CBS Sports and televised on CBS in the United States. History New York Rangers games on WCBS (1945–48) CBS' affiliation with the National Hockey League technically goes as far back as the 1945–46 season, when its flagship station, New York's WCBW (later WCBS) televised New York Rangers games through the 1947–48 season. Bob Edge provided the commentary during the first two seasons and Win Elliot for the final season, when WCBW officially became WCBS. The hockey telecasts from this era only used two cameras. The commercial spots for Knox Hats were done and aired live from a small studio elsewhere in Madison Square Garden. ''CBS Sports Spectacular'' is a sports anthology television program produced by CBS Sports, the sports division of the CBS television network in the United States. Irwin Elliot Shalek (May 7, 1915 – September 17, 1998), better known as Win Elliot, was an American television and radio sportscaster and game show host. He was best known for his long tenures as a play-by-play broadcaster of NHL New York Rangers and NBA New York Knicks games and host of ''Sports Central USA'' on the CBS Radio Network. Elliot was the brother of movie and TV actor Biff Elliot. Early life and broadcasting career Elliot was also a game show host in his early career. From 1947 to 1949, he emceed '' Quick as a Flash'', a radio quiz program which featured drama segments with guest actors from radio detective shows. In broadcasting, a flagship (also known as a flagship station or key station) is the broadcast station which originates a television network, or a particular radio or television program that plays a key role in the branding of and consumer loyalty to a network or station.
