Salma Rachid ( ar, سلمى رشيد, Moroccan pronunciation: ; born 13 June 1994) is a Moroccan pop singer and actress who gained fame at the age of 18 following her participation in the second season of ''Arab Idol'', broadcast on MBC. The youngest contestant, she earned fifth place and was praised for the strength of her voice, her ability to master various styles, and her charisma. She was nicknamed ''El Sultana'' by her fans and considers Umm Kulthum among her main inspiration. Raï (, ; ar, راي, Latn, ar, rāʾy, ), sometimes written rai, is a form of Algerian traditional music, folk music that dates back to the 1920s. Singers of Raï are called ''cheb'' (Arabic: شاب) (or ''shabab,'' i.e. young) as opposed to ''sheikh'' (Arabic: شيخ) (''shaykh'', i.e. old), the name given to Chaabi (music), Chaabi singers. Gnawa
The Gnawa (or Gnaoua, Ghanawa, Ghanawi, Gnawi'; Arabic: ڭناوة) are an ethnic group inhabiting Morocco. The name Gnawa probably originated in the indigenous language of North Africa and the Sahara Desert. The phonology of this term according to the grammatical principles of Berber is ''agnaw'' (singular) and ''ignawen'' (plural), which means ''mute'' or ''dyslalic''. Another explanation of the word Gnawa or Gnaoua (plural of Gnawi) is that the term Gnawa comes from the slaves who were brought to Morocco from Guinea many centuries ago. Gnawa was inscribed in 2019 on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Chaabi (lit. "popular") refers to several types of popular music of Morocco, combining rural and urban folk music. Saad Lamjarred ( ar, سعد لمجرد; born 7 April 1985) is a Moroccan singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, dancer, record producer and actor. He grew up in an artist family and became famous after his songs broke YouTube audience records, making him a major figure in Arabic pop, and the first singer to popularize Moroccan pop. Early life Lamjarred was born to Bachir Abdou, a Moroccan classical singer, and Nezha Regragui, an actress and comedian. From an early age, Lamjarred had a special interest in playing the piano, as well as singing as early as the age of four. Written and directed by Amr Salama, the film tells the history of a woman with HIV who struggles to live under the burden of keeping her HIV status secret, and then the dilemma she faces when offered the opportunity to appear on a television talk show.
