Marriott School Of Management
The Marriott School of Business is the business school of Brigham Young University (BYU), a private university owned by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) and located in Provo, Utah. It was founded in 1891 and renamed in 1988 after J. Willard Marriott, founder of Marriott International, and his wife Alice following their $15 million endowment gift to the school. The school is housed in the N. Eldon Tanner Building and supports 137 full-time faculty and approximately 200 adjunct, part-time or visiting faculty, full-time staff and students who teach. It has approximately 2,100 undergraduate and 1,200 graduate students, and approximately 62 percent of its student body are bilingual. As of 2019, its alumni base numbers 55,000. The School of Accountancy (SOA) at Brigham Young University is a department within the Marriott School of Management. The school offers one bachelor's degree and one master's degree. History The SOA has roots that date back to the beginnings of Brigham Young University. Bookkeeping classes were taught at Brigham Young Academy (which later became BYU) in its Commercial College (the Marriott School of Management's predecessor). In 1976, under the direction of dean Merrill J. Bateman, the Marriott School of Management created the Institute of Professional Accountancy within its jurisdiction. Jesse Knight Building
The Jesse Knight Building, also known as the JKB, is a building that houses classrooms on the Brigham Young University campus in Provo, Utah. Built in 1960 and named after Jesse Knight, the building was first occupied by the BYU Commercial College (or business school). When it was first built the Jesse Knight Building was the business building. It was significantly expanded in 1966. After the Tanner Building was built, the Jesse Knight building became the location of the College of Humanities. However, with the completion of the new Joseph F. Smith building in 2005 some humanities functions were shifted out of the Jesse knight Building, and some non-humanities institutions have moved into the building, so it is no longer known as the Jesse Knight Humanities Building (JKHB) as it was for many years.
