Domhnall, Earl Of Lennox
Mormaer Domhnall of Lennox ruled Lennox in the years 1333–1365. He succeeded his father Maol Choluim II. Domhnall adhered to the cause of David II during the Second War of Scottish Independence. King David II stayed at Dumbarton on at least twelve occasions between 1341 and 1346. King David along with Malcolm Fleming and many other Scottish nobles were taken prisoner by the English at the Battle of Neville's Cross in 1346. Earl Domhnall attended the parliament at Edinburgh 26 September 1357 and with others there appointed the plenipotentiaries to negotiate the ransom of King David. The earl received a charter from King David II dated 2 May 1361 confirming an extensive grant of forestry made by Alexander III of Scotland. Walter De Fasselane
Baltar mac Amlaimh, also called Walter of Faslane, was the ''de facto'' Mormaer of Lennox through his wife Margaret between 1365 and 1385. He was the great grandson of Amlaibh, the grandson of Mormaer Ailín II through the male line. He was the chief of a kin-group tracing its origins to the settlement which followed the death of Ailín II, where the ten brothers of Mormaer Maol Domhnaich were compensated with lands. Baltar and his kin achieved the Mormaerdom because he was allowed to marry the daughter of Mormaer Domhnall, Margaret. When Domhnall died in 1365, Margaret succeeded with Baltar as de facto ruler. It had been Domhnall's intention that the marriage would eventually allow the succession of a grandson, but it seems that Baltar was intended to rule in his turn. The Earl or Mormaer of Lennox was the ruler of the region of the Lennox in western Scotland. It was first created in the 12th century for David of Scotland, Earl of Huntingdon and later held by the Stewart dynasty. Ancient earls The first earl recorded is Ailin I, sometimes called 'Alwin'. Donnchadh of Lennox was the Mormaer of Lennox, 1385–1425. He was a son of Baltar mac Amlaimh and Margaret, daughter of Domhnall, Earl of Lennox. When Domhnall of Lennox died in 1365, Donnchadh's mother Margaret became ruler of Lennox.
