Moxley, West Midlands
Moxley is a village near Darlaston in the Metropolitan Borough of Walsall, West Midlands County, England. It was first developed during the early part of the 19th century when a handful of terraced houses were built to accommodate locals working in factories and mines and the area was created in 1845 out of land from Darlaston, Bilston and Wednesbury. Notable local events Moxley has been the subject of local headlines numerous times. In May 1999, a semi-detached council house on Hughes Road was severely damaged when a disused mineshaft below the property collapsed causing all of the dwelling to collapse with it. As a result of the damage and weakened structure, the attached property also had to be demolished. Harvey Summit () is a peak high at the head of McDermott Glacier in the Royal Society Range of Victoria Land, Antarctica. It was named by the United States Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US-ACAN) after John W. Harvey of the National Solar Observatory who, along with Thomas L. Duvall, Jr. and Martin A. Pomerantz, conducted research in helioseismology at the South Pole for some years from 1980 onwards. Features Harvey Summit is to the southeast of Mount Huggins. Nearby features include: Hofmann Spur An ice-covered spur between Allison Glacier and Dale Glacier on the west side of Royal Society Range. Named by US-ACAN (1994) after David J. Dorthy Elaine Moxley (; June 5, 1932 – December 24, 2024) was an American educator and crime victim advocate. She became involved in public and legal efforts following the 1975 murder of her daughter, Martha Moxley, in Greenwich, Connecticut. Early life and education Dorthy Elaine Jolgren was born on June 5, 1932, in Iron River, Michigan, to John W. Jolgren and Emma Lundwall. Her father worked as a tool and die maker in the automobile industry in Detroit, and the family lived in Rochester, Michigan. The household initially lacked modern amenities, but her father later installed running water and additional rooms in their home. Moxley attended Rochester High School, where she was a cheerleader. Jennifer Moxley (born 12 May 1964) is an American poet, editor, and translator (French) who was born in San Diego, California. She got her GED at 16, took college courses while working in her father's shop, spent a year as an au pair in Paris at age 18, and attended the University of California, San Diego. Her time at the university is detailed in her memoir, ''The Middle Room.'' She teaches poetry and poetics at the University of Maine and resides in Orono, Maine with her partner, Steve Evans. She is working on an English translation of the poems and diaries of Quebecois poet Marie Uguay. In 2015, Moxley's collection ''The Open Secret'' won the Poetry Society of America's William Carlos Williams Award. Martha Elizabeth Moxley (August 16, 1960 – October 30, 1975) was a 15-year-old American high school student from Greenwich, Connecticut, who was murdered in 1975. Moxley was last seen alive spending time at the home of the Skakel family, across the street from her home in Belle Haven. The case attracted worldwide publicity, as the Skakel children were nieces and nephews of Ethel Skakel Kennedy, the widow of United States Senator Robert F. Kennedy. Michael Skakel, also aged 15 at the time, was convicted in 2002 of murdering Moxley and was sentenced to 20 years to life in prison. Eleven years later, in 2013, Skakel was granted a new trial by a Connecticut judge who ruled that his counsel had been inadequate, and he was released on $1.2 million bail.
