The Venice Film Festival or Venice International Film Festival (, "International Exhibition of Cinematographic Art of the Venice Biennale") is an annual film festival held in Venice, Italy. It is the world's oldest film festival and one of the "Big Five" International film festivals worldwide, which include the Big Three European Film Festivals (Venice, Cannes, Berlin), alongside the Toronto International Film Festival in Canada and the Sundance Film Festival in the United States. In 1951, FIAPF formally accredited the festival. Founded by Giuseppe Volpi, member of the National Fascist Party and grandfather of producer Marina Cicogna, in Venice in August 1932, the festival is part of the Venice Biennale, one of the world's oldest exhibitions of art, created by the Venice City Council on 19 April 1893. Palazzo Del Cinema Di Venezia
Palazzo del Cinema di Venezia is the place that hosts the Venice Film Festival and congress activities, located in Lido di Venezia, Venice, Italy. Description There are three theaters in Palazzo del cinema: la Sala Grande with over 1 032 seats, the Zorzi (48 seats) and Pasinetti (119 seats) theatres. History The first cinema exhibition was held on the terrace of the Hotel Excelsior on August 6, 1932. But, with the growing success, it became necessary to build a proper and prestigious venue; this took place between 1936 and 1937, based on a project by the engineer Luigi Quagliata, faithful to the dictates of modernism. The Casino was built in the same area, based on a project by the Chief Engineer of the Municipality, Eugenio Miozzi, who also took care of the layout of the entire area where the Austrian Fort of the Quattro Fontane stood. Fredric March
Fredric March (born Ernest Frederick McIntyre Bickel; August 31, 1897 – April 14, 1975) was an American actor, regarded as one of Hollywood's most celebrated stars of the 1930s and 1940s.Obituary '' Variety'', April 16, 1975, page 95. As a performer he was known for his versatility. He received numerous accolades including two Academy Awards, a Golden Globe Award, and two Tony Awards as well as nominations for three BAFTA Awards and three Emmy Awards. March began his career in 1920, by working as an extra in movies filmed in New York City. He made his stage debut on Broadway in 1926 at the age of 29, and by the end of the decade, he had signed a film contract with Paramount Pictures. He made seven pictures in 1929. He went on to receive two Academy Awards, for his performances in ''Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde'' (1931) and ''The Best Years of Our Lives'' (1946).
