Montenegro Men's National Water Polo Team
The Montenegro men's national water polo team represents Montenegro in international men's water polo competitions, and is controlled by the Water Polo and Swimming Federation of Montenegro. Prior history Between 1918 and 1991, Montenegro was part of Yugoslavia, and its players participated in the Yugoslavia national water polo team. Between 1992 and 2006, it was part of FR Yugoslavia, later Serbia and Montenegro, so Montenegrin players played for Serbia and Montenegro men's national water polo team, those teams; Serbia is the sole successor to these countries so those results are recorded at Serbia national water polo team. Water Polo And Swimming Federation Of Montenegro
The Water Polo and Swimming Federation of Montenegro (VPSCG) (Montenegrin language, Montenegrin:Vaterpolo i plivački savez Crne Gore) is the governing body of water polo and swimming (sport), swimming in Montenegro. The federation was formed on 22 April 1949 in Herceg Novi. Its first president was Milan Vukasović. It is an independent sports organization, member of the Ligue Européenne de Natation, LEN (the European Swimming League), FINA (International Swimming Federation) from 21 August 2006, Montenegrin Olympic Committee. It also organizes the Montenegrin Water Polo Cup as well as the Montenegro national water polo team, Montenegrin national water polo team. It is based in Kotor and its current president is Dejan Bajić. Meridianbet is general sponsor of Federation. 2020 FINA Men's Water Polo World League
The 2020 FINA Men's Water Polo World League was the 19th edition of the annual men's international water polo tournament. It was played between November 2019 and July 2021 and open to all men's water polo national teams. After participating in a preliminary round, eight teams qualified to play in a final tournament, called the Super Final, originally scheduled from 23 to 28 June 2020. The tournament was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In August 2020, it was announced that it would be played in from January to July 2021. Montenegro won their third overall title, after defeating the United States in the final. In the world league, there are specific rules that do not allow matches to end in a draw. If teams are level at the end of the 4th quarter of any world league match, the match will be decided by a penalty shootout. 2016 Men's European Water Polo Championship
The 2016 Men's European Water Polo Championship was held in Belgrade, Serbia. Serbia won their seventh, and third straight, title by defeating the Montenegro 10–8 in the final. Hungary captured the bronze medal after a 13–10 win over Greece. Qualification For the first time, the tournament will be contested by 16 countries (12 previously). The 2012 Men's European Water Polo Championship took place at the Pieter van den Hoogenband Swim Stadium in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, from 16 to 29 January 2012. FINA Water Polo World League
The FINA Water Polo World League was an international water polo league organized by FINA (now World Aquatics), which played annually, typically from winter through to June. League play featured continental tournaments for men and women, from which the top teams emerged to play in the championship tournament (the ''Super Final'') where the league champion team is crowned. Men's league play began in 2002, to capitalize on increased worldwide popularity of water polo created by the 2000 Olympic Games, especially in Europe, North America, and Australia. The women’s league was added in 2004, based on growing interest in women's play. In October 2022, FINA announced that the tournament would be replaced with the FINA Water Polo World Cup and FINA Women's Water Polo World Cup from 2023 on.
