Moncton Aigles Bleus Men's Ice Hockey
The Moncton Aigles Bleus men's ice hockey team is an ice hockey team representing the Moncton Aigles Bleus athletics program of Université de Moncton. The team is a member of the Atlantic University Sport conference and compete in U Sports. The team plays their home games at the J. Louis Levesque Arena in Moncton, New Brunswick. History Just 2 years after the founding of the Université de Moncton, the school began sponsoring men's ice hockey as a varsity sport. The Aigles Bleus (Blue Eagles) had a difficult time getting off the ground, remaining at or near the bottom of the standings for their first 8 seasons. 1973 saw not only the program's first winning season but also its first playoff appearance. The team steadily built itself into a power over the remainder of the decade and won four consecutive league championships in the early 1980s. The Moncton Aigles Bleus and Bleues (; French for: ''Moncton Blue Eagles'') are the athletic teams that represent Université de Moncton in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada. They play in U Sports, which encompasses university teams from across Canada, and play within the Atlantic University Sport conference. The name Moncton Aigles Bleus was formerly used for male teams only, with the female teams being called the Moncton Anges Bleus, but now the women's teams are called the Moncton Aigles Bleues. Varsity Teams Moncton currently has seven varsity programs competing in the following sports: Championships The men's hockey team has won 15 championships, 11 of those are at the Atlantic University Sport level, and 4 are at the national U Sports level. 2012 CIS University Cup
The 2012 CIS Men's University Cup Hockey Tournament (50th Annual) was held March 22–25, 2012. This event marked the 50th anniversary of the inception of the University Cup tournament to decide the Men's University Hockey Champion. It is the second of two consecutive CIS Championships to be held at the University of New Brunswick's Aitken University Centre before moving to Credit Union Centre in Saskatoon for two years (hosted by the University of Saskatchewan. The defending champions were the UNB Varsity Reds, who won their 4th title in fourteen years and who return to the tournament with a record of 20–5–3 in CIS play. They were joined by three qualifiers, a designated host team and one wild cards for a total of six(6) teams. Acadia Axemen Ice Hockey
The Acadia Axemen ice hockey team is an ice hockey team representing the Acadia Axemen athletics program of Acadia University. The team is a member of the Atlantic University Sport conference and compete in U Sports. The team plays their home games at the Andrew H. McCain Arena (formerly the "Acadia Arena") in Wolfville, Nova Scotia. History Acadia has fielded an ice hockey team since 1905. Up until 1954, the school played both college and senior hockey, stopping for only war years during World War I and World War II. Beginning in 1954–55, the Axemen played exclusively at the collegiate level and has seen some success over the years. Their pinnacle was during the 1990s when Acadia won two national championships. AUAA Men's Ice Hockey Tournament
The Atlantic Universities Athletic Association ice hockey tournament was an annual conference championship held between member teams. History In 1968, the Maritime Intercollegiate Athletic Association, which had been founded in 1919, rebranded as the 'Atlantic Intercollegiate Athletic Association' (AIAA). Five years later, the league merged with the 'Atlantic Women's Intercollegiate Athletic Association' (AWIAA) to form the 'Atlantic Universities Athletic Association'. This combined league continued until 1998 when it was renamed Atlantic University Sport (AUS). The two leagues continued the process laid down by the MIAA by holding a postseason tournament each year and sending its champion to the University Cup tournament. The UNB Reds men's ice hockey team is an collegiate ice hockey team representing the UNB Reds athletics program of University of New Brunswick. The team is a member of the Atlantic University Sport (AUS) conference and compete in U Sports. The team plays their home games at the Aitken University Centre in Fredericton, New Brunswick. History Students at UNB have been associated with ice hockey as far back as 1880. The first organized game occurred in 1897 when an informal team played against a Canadian Army Company. A second team wasn't organized for another 5 years but, once the Reds hockey team reappeared, the school recognized the club as official representatives of the university. The Maritime Intercollegiate Athletic Association ice hockey tournament was an annual conference championship held between member teams. History The conference was formed once the maritime schools restarted their ice hockey programs after World War I. For the inaugural season, the league instituted a tournament and held it after every season until 1964, when scheduling conflicts with the University Cup caused its cancellation. U Sports Men's Ice Hockey Championship
The U Sports Men's Ice Hockey Championship, is a Canadian university ice hockey tournament conducted by U Sports, and determines the men's national champion. The tournament involves the champions from each of Canada's four regional sports conferences. The David Johnston University Cup is awarded to the winners. The Ottawa Gee-Gees are the current champions for the 2024–25 season. The Alberta Golden Bears hold the record of 16 championship wins, as well as the record of 24 championship final appearances. The Toronto Varsity Blues hold the record of 5 consecutive championship trophy wins, from 1969 through 1973, but have not returned to the tournament since 1993, when they suffered the second most lopsided loss in a UCup final, 12–1.
