Moncton Aigles Bleues Women's Ice Hockey
The Moncton Aigles Bleues women's ice hockey team represents the University of Moncton in U Sports women's ice hockey. The Aigles Bleues compete in the Atlantic University Sport (AUS) Conference in the U Sports athletic association. The program has won three conference championships and has made four national championship tournament appearances with their best finish occurring in 2009 with a bronze medal victory. History At the midway point of the 2008-09 CIS season, Mariève Provost led the CIS in scoring with 15 goals and 27 assists in 11 conference games. She represented Canada in their entry at the 2009 World Universidade, which was the first appearance for the Canadian women in ice hockey at the Universidade. The UPEI Panthers women's ice hockey program represent the University of Prince Edward Island in the Atlantic University Sport (AUS) conference. The Panthers have won one AUS conference championship and have qualified for four U Sports women's ice hockey championship tournaments. The Moncton Aigles Bleus men's ice hockey team is an ice hockey team representing the Moncton Aigles Bleus athletics program of Université de Moncton. The team is a member of the Atlantic University Sport conference and compete in U Sports. The team plays their home games at the J. Louis Levesque Arena in Moncton, New Brunswick. History Just 2 years after the founding of the Université de Moncton, the school began sponsoring men's ice hockey as a varsity sport. The Aigles Bleus (Blue Eagles) had a difficult time getting off the ground, remaining at or near the bottom of the standings for their first 8 seasons. 1973 saw not only the program's first winning season but also its first playoff appearance. Ice Hockey At The 2011 Winter Universiade
Ice hockey at the 2011 Winter Universiade was held from January 27 through February 6 at the Erzurum GSIM Ice Arena complex in Erzurum, generally called "3000 Ice Rink" and "500 Ice Rink" during Universiade in reference to the seating capacities of its two sheets of ice. In most cases, men's matches were played at 3000 Ice Rink and women's matches were played at 500 Ice Rink, although exceptions were made for the women's semifinals and medal games played in the larger rink, while some lower men's placement games were played in the smaller one. The selection of participating teams – 12 in the men's tournament and six in the women's tournament, including the hosting Turkey sides in both cases – was announced on August 27, 2010, while the draw to place the teams into their assigned pools took place on October 2, 2010. The 2009 Winter Universiade, the XXIV Winter Universiade took place in Harbin, China. Student athletes from 44 countries took part in the games. Selection Harbin was selected by FISU on January 10, 2005 over future 2011 Winter Universiade host city Erzurum. They were the only two candidates. The Guelph Gryphons are an ice hockey team that represents the University of Guelph. They compete in the Ontario University Athletics Conference in U Sports.
