Monash Art, Design and Architecture (MADA), also known ad the Faculty of Art, Design & Architecture at Monash University, undertakes teaching and research in the areas of fine art, design, architecture, urban design and curation. Created from the Monash University College of Art and Design and formerly known as the Faculty of Art and Design, it is located at the Monash University, Caulfield campus, Caulfield Campus. History In 1993, John Redmond (educator), John Redmond joined Monash University as Director of Monash University College of Art and Design, and was appointed founding Dean of the new Faculty of Art and Design in 1998. In 2008, the Faculty launched a new course in architecture, the first new architecture course in Australia for 30 years, resulting in the faculty being renamed the Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture. Fine Art
In European academic traditions, fine art (or, fine arts) is made primarily for aesthetics or creative expression, distinguishing it from popular art, decorative art or applied art, which also either serve some practical function (such as pottery or most metalwork) or is generally of limited artistic quality in order to appeal to the masses. John Redmond (educator)
John Edward Redmond (1 September 1856 – 6 March 1918) was an Irish nationalist politician, barrister, and MP in the House of Commons of the United Kingdom. He was best known as leader of the moderate Irish Parliamentary Party (IPP) from 1900 until his death in 1918. He was also the leader of the paramilitary organisation the Irish National Volunteers (INV). He was born to an old prominent Catholic family in rural Ireland; several relatives were politicians. He took over control of the minority IPP faction loyal to Charles Stewart Parnell when that leader died in 1891. Redmond was a conciliatory politician who achieved the two main objectives of his political life: party unity and, in September 1914, the passing of the Government of Ireland Act 1914. The Monash University Museum of Art (MUMA), formerly the Monash University Gallery, is a contemporary art museum on Monash University's Caulfield campus on Dandenong Road, Melbourne, Australia.
