Moldovan Local Election, 2007
Local elections were held in Moldova on June 3, 2007, with a runoff for mayors on June 17, 2007. Voter turnout reached 52.34% nationwide and 37.17% in Chişinău municipality. Following the elections, district, municipal, town and village councils were elected, as well as 420 mayors. Moldova, officially the Republic of Moldova, is a Landlocked country, landlocked country in Eastern Europe, with an area of and population of 2.42 million. Two-round System
The two-round system (TRS or 2RS), sometimes called ballotage, top-two runoff, or two-round plurality, is a single-winner electoral system which aims to elect a member who has support of the majority of voters. The two-round system involves one or two rounds of choose-one voting, where the voter marks a single favorite candidate in each round. If no one has a majority of votes in the first round, the two candidates with the most votes in the first round move on to a second election (a second round of voting). Dorin Chirtoacă
Dorin Chirtoacă (born 9 August 1978) is a Moldovan politician who served as Mayor of Chișinău from 2007 to 2018. He has been leader of Liberal Party (Moldova), Liberal Party (PL) since 2018. Biography His mother is Valentina, sister of Gheorghe Ghimpu and Mihai Ghimpu. During high school, he studied in Iași and graduated in 2001 from University of Bucharest Faculty of Law. Between 2001 and 2003, Chirtoacă worked for ''Surprize, Surprize'' ("Surprises, Surprises"), a show broadcast on TVR1. Then he worked for the Helsinki Committee for Human Rights in Moldova (2003–2005) as Program Coordinator. Local Elections In Moldova
Moldova elects a legislature at national level. The Parliament (''Parlamentul'') has 101 members, elected for a four-year term by proportional representation with a 6% electoral threshold. The President used to be elected for a four-year term by a constitutional majority of 60% members of the Parliament, but a Constitutional Court's ruling on 4 March 2016, reverted the election method of the President to a two-round system direct election.
