Missouri State Bears Football
The Missouri State Bears football program is the college football team that represents Missouri State University located in Springfield, Missouri, United States. Missouri State competes in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) and is a member of the Missouri Valley Football Conference. The program is in the two-year transition up to the FBS subdivision; it will join Conference USA in 2025 and become a full FBS member in 2026. The school was known as Southwest Missouri State until 2005 when they changed the name to Missouri State. Missouri State's first football team was fielded in 1909 and the first coach in program history was Walter Langston who went 4–2 in his only season as head coach. Prior to 1923, the team competed as an Independent. Ryan Beard
Ryan Beard (born ) is an American college football coach and former player. He is the head football coach for Missouri State University, a position he has held since 2023. He played college football at Western Kentucky and later coached them, Louisville, Northern Michigan, and Central Michigan before receiving a job at Missouri State in 2020. Early life and education A native of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Beard attended Bowling Green High School where he played football for four seasons and helped them reach the Class 3A championship twice. He began playing college football for the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers in 2007 as a defensive back and was an all-freshman selection. Beard became a starter in 2008. Del Miller
Del Miller (born November 6, 1950) is a former American football coach. He served as the head football coach at Southwest Missouri State University—now known as Missouri State University—from 1995 to 1998, compiling a record of 21–23. Miller was a longtime assistant to Kansas State University under head coach Bill Snyder. He was the first assistant hired by Snyder in 1989, and has served three separate stints with the program. Miller and Snyder had previously coached together as assistants at the University of Iowa under Hayden Fry. Miller shared the offensive coordinator duties at Kansas State with Dana Dimel from 2009 to 2016. Miller graduated from Iowa Valley Community School District, Iowa Valley High School in 1968. Joseph William Dellastatious (October 2, 1922 – November 6, 2023) was an American college football player and coach. He played as a quarterback with the Missouri Tigers. Career Dellastatious played college football at the University of Missouri, where he was a quarterback. He had previously played at Clemson University and attended Bucknell and George Washington University. Dellastatious was drafted by National Football League (NFL) teams twice. In the 1945 NFL draft he was chosen with the 19th overall pick by the Pittsburgh Steelers, but was ruled "not yet eligible" by the NFL and the pick was forfeited. He was then properly drafted in the first round of the 1946 NFL draft by the Detroit Lions. Fred Thomsen
Fred Charles Thomsen (April 25, 1897 – January 7, 1986) was an American football player and coach. From 1929 to 1941, he was the head football coach at the University of Arkansas, compiling a record of 56–61–10.
