Miss Belgium is a national beauty pageant in Belgium. The winner of Miss Belgium automatically represents her country at the Miss World and Miss Universe pageants if the dates do not overlap. History Queen of the Beach The first contest looking for the most beautiful girl in Belgium was in 1928. It was journalist Jean-Jacques Fortis who organised the contest "La Reine de la Plage" - "The Queen of the Beach" as a promotion for the journal Piccolo, now Le Soir. It was Anne Koyaert who won the contest in Blankenberge. Miss Belgium Following the success, Fortis was allowed to organise a bigger election. Sandrine Corman (born 12 April 1980 in Verviers, Belgium) is a Belgian tv host and beauty pageant titleholder. Pageants Corman was Miss Belgium 1997 at the age of 17. Amina Lawal Kurami (born 1972) is a Nigerian woman sentenced to death by stoning for adultery and for conceiving a child out of wedlock. Lawal was sentenced by an Islamic Sharia court in Funtua, in the northern state of Katsina, in Nigeria, on 22 March 2002. The person she identified as the father of the child, Yahayya Muhammad Kurami, was acquitted of the accusation of zinā. Although Kurami was excused because he took an oath by the Holy Qur’an, this was not an option for Lawal due to the presence of her child, which is proof in the Mālikī school. Miss World 1953 was the third Miss World pageant, held at the Lyceum Theatre, London, Lyceum Ballroom in London, United Kingdom on 19 October 1953.
