The Ministry of Interior of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan (Arabic language, Arabic: ) is the Ministry (government department), ministry in the Politics of Jordan, Government of Jordan. Established in 1921, at the time of the establishment of the Emirate of Transjordan, it is responsible for law enforcement in Jordan. On 7 March 2020, Mazin Abdellah Hilal Al Farrayeh was appointed minister by Prime Minister Bisher Al-Khasawneh. The Ministry of Interior directs the Public Security Directorate; around 50,000 in 2016, the General Directorate of Gendarmerie, the Civil Defense Directorate and the Civil Status and Passports Department. The politics of Jordan takes place in a framework of a parliamentary monarchy, whereby the Prime Minister of Jordan is head of government, and of a multi-party system. Jordan is a constitutional monarchy based on the constitution promulgated on January 8, 1952. Bisher Al-Khasawneh
Bisher Khasawneh (; born 27 January 1969) is a Jordanian politician and diplomat who served as the 43rd Prime Minister of Jordan and Minister of Defence from 12 October 2020 to 15 September 2024. Khasawneh was an ambassador of Jordan to Egypt, France, Kenya, Ethiopia, African Union, League of Arab States, and to UNESCO. He also served as Coordinator General and Director of the Peace Process and Negotiations Bureau in Jordan. He served as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs between 2016 and 2017. He subsequently was Minister of State for Legal Affairs between 2017 and 2018. He served as the adviser to King Abdullah II for Communication and Coordination at The Royal Hashemite Court between April 2019 and August 2020. Law enforcement in Jordan is the purview of the "Public Security Force" (includes approximately 50,000 persons), the Jordanian national police, which is subordinate to the Public Security Directorate of the Ministry of Interior. History The first police force in the Jordanian state after the fall of the Ottoman Empire was organized on 11 April 1921. Ali Khulqi Pasha Alsharairi was appointed as the first commander of the security force and as a National Security Counsellor (minister) in the first Transjordan government.
