A minaret is a type of tower typically built into or adjacent to mosques. Minarets are generally used to project the Muslim call to prayer (''adhan'') from a muezzin, but they also served as landmarks and symbols of Islam's presence. They can have a variety of forms, from thick, squat towers to soaring, pencil-thin spires. Etymology Two Arabic words are used to denote the minaret tower: ''manāra'' and ''manār''. The English word "minaret" originates from the former, via the Turkish language, Turkish version (). The Arabic word ''manāra'' (plural: ''manārāt'') originally meant a "lamp stand", a cognate of Hebrew language, Hebrew ''Temple menorah, menorah''. Minar (Firuzabad)
The Minar was a staged, tower-like structure built in the center of the Sasanian Empire, Sasanian circular city of Firuzabad, Fars, Gōr (modern Firuzabad, Iran). Several theories have been proposed for its purpose. Only the core of the structure remains today. Description and history The structure is known as ''Minar'' (, literally "pillar") or ''Minaret'' () in Persian language, New Persian, while the medieval Arabic-language Islamic sources referred to the structure as ''Terbal'' ( ''Ṭirbāl''). Ivo Minář
Ivo Minář (born 21 May 1984) is a former professional male tennis player from the Czech Republic. On 20 July 2009 Minář reached his career-high singles ranking of World No. 62. His brother Jan is also a professional player, who has been ranked in the top 200 in the world. Minář was a member of the winning Czech Republic team in the 2012 Davis Cup. Minář also worked as coach of Czech tennis player Kristýna Plíšková. Career Minář won the European junior championships in Klosters when he was 16, defeating fellow Czech Tomáš Berdych. Clarence Thomas (born June 23, 1948) is an American lawyer and jurist who has served since 1991 as an associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. President George H. W. Bush Clarence Thomas Supreme Court nomination, nominated him to succeed Thurgood Marshall. After Marshall, Thomas is the second African Americans, African American to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court and has been its List of United States Supreme Court justices by time in office, longest-serving member since Anthony Kennedy's retirement in 2018.
