Mexican Olympic Committee
The Mexican Olympic Committee () (COM) is the organization that represents Mexican athletes in the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the Pan American Games and the Central American and Caribbean Games. It was created and formally recognized by the IOC in 1923. The organization is currently directed by María José Alcalá. The Mexican Olympic Committee is headquartered in Mexico City, Mexico. Sailing (sport), Sailing/Yachting is an Olympic sport starting from the Sailing at the 1896 Summer Olympics, 1896 Olympics in Athens, Greece. With the exception of 1904 Summer Olympics, 1904 and possibly the canceled 1916 Summer Olympics, sailing has always been included on the Olympic schedule. The Sailing program of 1988 consisted of a total of eight sailing classes (disciplines). Gonzala Aurora Bretón Gómez (10 January 1950 – 27 May 2014) was a Mexican archer who represented her country in four Olympic Games (1972, 1984, 1988 and 1992); won two silver and five bronze medals in Pan American Games and eight gold and two silver medals in Central American and Caribbean Games. After retiring from international competitions, she worked as Olympic coach, briefly served as sports commentator for a television network during the 2012 Summer Olympics and, controversially, chaired the Mexican Archery Federation, where she was forced to resign after being charged with visa fraud by the United States government and accused of sexual harassment by the family of an underage female athlete.
