2017 Women's Pan American Cup
The 2017 Women's Pan American Cup was the fifth edition of the Women's Pan American Cup, the quadrennial international women's field hockey championship of the Americas organised by the Pan American Hockey Federation. It was held between 5 and 13 August 2017 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, United States, simultaneously with the men's tournament. The tournament doubled as the qualifier for two major international tournaments: the winner qualified directly to the 2018 World Cup, and the two teams not qualifying through the 2018 South American Games or the 2018 Central American and Caribbean Games qualified for the 2019 Pan American Games to be held in Lima, Peru. Also, the top 6 teams qualified for the next Pan American Cup, while the bottom two need to compete in the Pan American Challenge. 2009 Women's Pan American Cup
The 2009 Women's Pan American Cup was the 3rd edition of the Women's Pan American Cup, the quadrennial international women's field hockey championship of the Americas organised by the Pan American Hockey Federation. It was held between 7 and 15 February 2009 in Hamilton, Bermuda. The tournament doubled as the qualifier to the 2010 World Cup to be held in Rosario, Argentina. The winner would qualify directly while teams ranked between second and sixth would have the chance to obtain one of three berths at the World Cup Qualifiers. The top six teams also qualified for the 2013 Women's Pan American Cup. Argentina won the tournament for the third consecutive time after defeating the United States 7–6 in the final on penalty strokes after a 2–2 draw. The women's field hockey tournament at the 2023 Pan American Games was the 10th edition of the field hockey event for women at the Pan American Games. It took place over a ten-day period beginning on 26 October, and culminating with the medal finals on 4 November. The defending champions Argentina won their eighth title by defeating the United States 2–1 in the final. The hosts Chile won the bronze medal by defeating Canada 2–0. Field Hockey
Field hockey (or simply referred to as hockey in some countries where ice hockey is not popular) is a team sport structured in standard hockey format, in which each team plays with 11 players in total, made up of 10 field players and a goalkeeper. Teams must move a hockey ball around a field by hitting it with a field hockey stick, hockey stick towards the rival team's shooting circle and then into the goal (sports), goal.
