The 2nd constituency of Meuse is a French legislative constituency in the Meuse ''département''. Description The 2nd constituency of Meuse covers the northern portion of the department. It includes the town of Verdun infamous for its role in the First World War. From 1988 until 2017 the seat has been held by Jean-Louis Dumont, a former mayor of Verdun, of the Socialist Party. Meuse () is a department in northeast France, named after the River Meuse. Meuse is part of the current region of Grand Est and is landlocked and borders by the French departments of Ardennes, Marne, Haute-Marne, Vosges, Meurthe-et-Moselle, and Belgium to the north. 1997 French Legislative Election
Legislative elections were held in France on 25 May and 1 June 1997 to elect the 11th National Assembly (France), National Assembly of the French Fifth Republic. It was the consequence of President Jacques Chirac's decision to call the legislative election one year before the deadline. In March 1993 the right won a large victory in 1993 French legislative election, the legislative election and a comfortable parliamentary majority. Two years later, the Rally for the Republic, RPR leader Jacques Chirac was elected President of France promising to reduce the "social fracture". Ecology Democracy Solidarity () was a centre-left parliamentary group in the National Assembly of France. It was formed in May 2020 by members of La République En Marche!, a liberal parliamentary group. After losing three members in the span of two months, the group was forcibly dissolved in October 2020 because it didn’t have enough members. It then became The New Democrats. Renaissance (RE) is a political party in France that is typically described as liberal and centrist or centre-right. The party was originally known as (EM) and later (, LREM, LaREM or REM), before adopting its current name in September 2022. Émilie Cariou
Émilie Cariou (; born 14 October 1971) is a French politician who served as a member of the French National Assembly for Meuse's 2nd constituency from 2017 to 2022. She was elected as a member of La République En Marche!, but left the party and in May 2020, she was one of the 17 initial members who formed the short-lived Ecology Democracy Solidarity group. Later in 2020, she joined some of these deputies in starting The New Democrats. Early career Cariou spent most of her career at the Ministry of Economy and Finance, known as Bercy.
