Merseytravel
Merseytravel is a public transport body and the passenger transport executive of the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority responsible for delivering Public transport and other transport functions in the Liverpool City Region. It was originally established on 1 December 1969 as the Merseyside Passenger Transport Executive. In July 2024, it was announced it is to be rebranded as Transport for Liverpool City Region (TfLCR) in the future. Governance The Merseyside Passenger Transport Authority and Merseyside Passenger Transport Executive were established as a result of the Transport Act 1968. The authority, which was responsible for transport strategy and policy, included representatives from 18 different councils. Merseyrail
Merseyrail is a commuter rail network which serves Merseyside and adjacent areas of Cheshire and Lancashire in the North West England, North West of England. Merseyrail serves 69 Railway station, stations, 67 of which it manages, across two lines – the Northern line (Merseyrail), Northern line and the Wirral line. The network uses electrified lines having of routes, of which are underground. Since January 2023, Merseyrail commenced replacing its train fleet, withdrawing the British Rail Class 507, Class 507 and British Rail Class 508, 508 trains and introducing 53 new British Rail Class 777, Class 777 trains. The network carried 28.3 million passengers in the 2023/2024 statistical period. Merseyside ( ) is a ceremonial counties of England, ceremonial and metropolitan county in North West England. The Liverpool City Region is a combined authority area in North West England. The Northern line is one of two Commuter rail in the United Kingdom, commuter rail routes operated by Merseyrail and centred on Merseyside, England, the other being the Wirral line. Liverpool City Region Combined Authority
The Liverpool City Region Combined Authority (LCRCA) is the combined authority of the Liverpool City Region in England. Its jurisdiction includes the City of Liverpool local authority area, the Metropolitan Boroughs of Knowsley, St Helens, Sefton, and Wirral, and the unitary borough of Halton. It was established on 1 April 2014 by statutory instrument under the provisions of the Local Democracy, Economic Development and Construction Act 2009. Composition of the combined authority is made up of the leaders of the six principal membership authorities, plus several non-voting members with various vested interests in the activities of the combined authority. Train Operating Company
In the railway system of Great Britain, a train operating company (TOC) is a railway undertaking operating passenger trains under the collective National Rail brand. TOCs have existed since the privatisation of the network under the Railways Act 1993. There are two types of TOC: most hold franchises let by the Department for Transport (DfT) through a tendering system, to operate services on certain routes for a specified duration, while a small number of open-access operators hold licences to provide supplementary services on chosen routes. Steve Rotherham
Steven Philip Rotheram (born 4 November 1961) is a British politician serving as Mayor of the Liverpool City Region since 2017. A member of the Labour Party, he was Member of Parliament (MP) for Liverpool Walton from 2010 to 2017. Born and raised in Kirkby, Rotheram left school to become a bricklayer and set up his own construction company at the age of 22. He earned a Master's degree in Contemporary Urban Renaissance from Liverpool Hope University and worked as a business manager for the Learning and Skills Council. He was elected to represent Fazakerley for Labour on Liverpool City Council from 2002 to 2011, and served as Lord Mayor of Liverpool from 2008 to 2009.
