Sangerhausen was a district (''Kreis'') in the south of Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. Neighboring districts were (from north clockwise) Quedlinburg (district), Quedlinburg, Mansfelder Land (district), Mansfelder Land, Merseburg-Querfurt, and the districts Kyffhäuserkreis and Nordhausen (district), Nordhausen in Thuringia. Sangerhausen was merged on July 1, 2007, with Mansfelder Land (district), Mansfelder Land into the new district Mansfeld-Südharz as part of a Kreisreform Sachsen-Anhalt 2007, reform. History The district was created on October 1, 1816, after Sachsen-Weißenfels became part of Prussia in 1815. Mansfelder Land (district)
Mansfelder Land was a district (''Kreis'') in the middle of Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. Neighboring districts were (from north clockwise) Aschersleben-Staßfurt, Bernburg, Saalkreis, Merseburg-Querfurt, Sangerhausen and Quedlinburg. It was merged on July 1, 2007, with Sangerhausen into the new district Mansfeld-Südharz as part of a reform. History The district was created in 1994 by merging the previous districts Hettstedt and Eisleben. Saalkreis was a district (''Kreis'') in the south of Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. Weißenfels (district)
Weißenfels was a district (''Kreis'') in the south of Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. Neighboring districts were (from south clockwise) Burgenlandkreis, Merseburg-Querfurt and the Saxon district Leipziger Land. History Near the small town Goseck archaeologists, discovered in 1999 was the oldest solar observatory in Europe, beating Stonehenge by more than 2000 years. Around 5000 BC the circular trench with a diameter of 75 meters was surrounded with wood palisades, with three openings which allowed to measure the date of the spring and autumn equinox. Bad Lauchstädt
(until 1925 ''Lauchstädt''), officially Goethestadt Bad Lauchstädt, is a town in the district Saalekreis, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany, 13 km southwest of Halle. Population 8,781 (2020). Lauchstädt was a popular watering-place in the 18th century, the dukes of Saxe-Merseburg often making it their summer residence. From 1789 to 1811 the Weimar court theatrical company gave performances here of the plays of Friedrich Schiller and Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, an attraction which greatly contributed to the well-being of the town. Kötzschau is a village and a former municipality in the district Saalekreis, in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. Today, it is a part of Leuna. Kötzschau is situated approximately 11 km southeast of Merseburg and has a population close to 2,000.
