''Men in Black 3'' (stylized as ''MIB³'') is a 2012 American science fiction action comedy film based on the comic book series, in turn based on the conspiracy theory. It is the third installment in the ''Men in Black'' film series. Directed by Barry Sonnenfeld and written by Etan Cohen, the film stars Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones and Josh Brolin, with Jemaine Clement, Michael Stuhlbarg, Bill Hader and Emma Thompson in supporting roles. In the film, Agent J is required to go back in time to prevent the assassination of his partner Agent K, the fallout of which threatens the safety of Earth. Development of the sequel began during filming of its predecessor, with its premise suggested by Smith to Sonnenfeld. Barry Sonnenfeld
Barry Sonnenfeld (born April 1, 1953) is an American filmmaker and television director. He originally worked as a cinematographer for the Coen brothers before directing films such as '' The Addams Family'' (1991) and its sequel '' Addams Family Values'' (1993), '' Get Shorty'' (1995), the ''Men in Black'' trilogy (1997–2012), and '' Wild Wild West'' (1999).
