This is a list of members of the 19th Legislative Assembly of Queensland from 1912 to 1915, as elected at the 1912 state election held on 27 April 1912. Apart from the 1904–1907 term, when Labor had held two seats short of a majority, the parliament had been dominated by non-Labor forces since the separation of Queensland from New South Wales in 1860 — this was the last such parliament until 1957, apart from the 1929–1932 term led by the Moore Ministry. Notes : At the 1912 election in Maryborough, Edward Corser, the sitting Liberal member, won against Labor candidate William Mitchell by 10 votes. Legislative Assembly Of Queensland
The Legislative Assembly of Queensland is the sole chamber of the unicameral Parliament of Queensland established under the Constitution of Queensland. Elections are held every four years and are done by full preferential voting. The Assembly has 93 members, who have used the letters MP after their names since 2000 (previously they were styled MLAs). There is approximately the same population in each electorate; however, that has not always been the case (in particular, a malapportionment system - not, strictly speaking, a gerrymander - dubbed the '' Bjelkemander'' was in effect during the 1970s and 1980s). The electoral district of Normanby was a Legislative Assembly electorate in the state of Queensland from 1872 until 1949. History Normanby was created by the ''Electoral Districts Act'' in 1872 as a single-member seat, stretching from the coastal area around St Lawrence, west towards Clermont. William Bertram (11 January 1875 – 11 June 1957) was an Australian politician. He was the Labor member for Maree in the Legislative Assembly of Queensland from 1912 to 1929. He served as Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland from 1920 to 1929. Electoral District Of Fassifern
Fassifern was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland from 1873 to 1992. It was based on the area south of Ipswich and stretched toward the New South Wales border, although in subsequent redistributions was reduced in size away from the growing Brisbane area. It was named after the Fassifern Valley. Fassifern was a safe Country/National district for most of its existence. It was abolished in the 1991 redistribution under the Goss government, and was largely replaced by the new district of Beaudesert. Ernest Bell
Ernest Thomas Bell (31 March 1880 – 2 May 1930) was a pastoralist and member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Biography Bell was born in Camboon, Queensland, to parents John Thomas Marsh Bell and his wife Gertrude Augusta (née Norton) and attended Toowoomba Grammar School and Ipswich Grammar School. When he left school he was the manager of Combargno Station, Roma. He was involved in many agricultural associations over the years including president of the Fassifern Agricultural and Pastoral Association and chairman of the Australian Meat Council. William Bebbington
William Bebbington (19 October 1856 – 31 July 1939) was a cheese maker and member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Biography Bebbington was born at Baschurch, Salop, England, to Thomas Bebbington and his wife Martha. He worked as a clerk for the Midland Railway before arriving in Australia and settling in Toowoomba. He started a cheese factory in the town and eventually became the President of the Queensland Cheese Manufacturers' Association. Electoral District Of Bulimba
Bulimba is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland. The electorate covers the inner eastern suburbs of Brisbane. It is bounded on the north and the west by the Brisbane River and, as at the 2009 election, covers the suburbs of Bulimba, Balmoral, Cannon Hill, Hawthorne, Morningside, Norman Park, Murarrie and Seven Hills. The boundaries have changed relatively little since 1923; prior to that, the boundaries extended as far east as Wynnum and as far south-east as Mount Gravatt and Cleveland. Walter Barnes (politician)
Walter Henry Barnes (7 September 1858 – 19 February 1933) was a longtime member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Early years Barnes was born in Castlemaine, Victoria, a son of Hiram Barnes, who took his family to Queensland when he was six years old. He gained employment in the saddler business, then worked as a driver for Cobb and Co. coaches. He next worked for the Post Office, then in 1884 joined his brother's firm of Barnes and Co. Ltd., produce and general merchants. He held the position of manager of the Roma Street business for very many years, and ultimately became managing director of the company. Politics For 25 years he was a member of the Coorparoo Shire Council, of which body he was five times Chairman. He first entered Parliament in 1901 as member for Bulimba, succeeding Sir James R. George Powell Barnes (20 September 1856 – 9 December 1949), generally referred to by his full name or as "George P. Barnes",Most likely to distinguish him in newspaper reports from his contemporary, the prominent British parliamentarian George Barnes. was a Queensland businessman and politician. Electoral District Of Bundaberg
Bundaberg is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland in central Queensland, Australia. It covers the city of Bundaberg, as well as the immediate surrounding area. History The electoral district of Bundaberg was created by the ''Electoral Districts Act of 1887'' which abolished the electoral district of Mulgrave that had included the Bundaberg area. The first election held in the seat of Bundaberg was the 1888 election. The city's urban population has long made the seat a Labor stronghold. This changed in 2005 when the practices of rogue surgeon Jayant Patel at the Bundaberg Base Hospital were uncovered. The Beattie government was seriously embarrassed by the subsequent Commissions of Inquiry into the matter, and as a result the seat was considered winnable for the Nationals.
