Melbourne Tram Route 58
Melbourne tram route 58 is a tram route on the Melbourne tramway network serving the city of Melbourne in Victoria, Australia. Operated by Yarra Trams, the route is coloured light grey and extends from West Coburg to Toorak over 18.0 kilometre of double track via Brunswick West, Parkville, North Melbourne, West Melbourne, William Street, Southbank and South Yarra. It is serviced out of Essendon and Southbank depots utilising Z, B and E class trams. History Route 58 was introduced on 1 May 2017 as part of a restructure of the Yarra Trams network to facilitate the closure of Domain Interchange and the construction of Anzac railway station. It replaced route 55 in its entirety from West Coburg to Domain Interchange and the southern part of route 8 from Domain Interchange to Toorak. E-class Melbourne Tram
The E-class trams are three-section, four-bogie articulated trams that were first introduced to the Trams in Melbourne, Melbourne tram network in 2013.They were built at the Dandenong rolling stock factory of Bombardier Transportation (later Alstom) with the propulsion systems and bogies coming from Bombardier/Alstom factories in Germany. The E-class is part of the Tram Procurement Program, a Public Transport Victoria project aimed at increasing capacity and reliability of the tram network through the introduction of new trams, creation of new depot space, and upgrades to existing infrastructure. In September 2010, 50 were ordered with an option to purchase a further 100. South Yarra is an inner-city suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 4 km south-east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the Cities of Melbourne and Stonnington local government areas. Anzac Railway Station
Anzac railway station is a rapid transit railway station on the Cranbourne line, Cranbourne, Pakenham line, Pakenham and Sunbury line, Sunbury lines, serving the Melbourne CBD in Victoria, Australia. When opened as part of the Metro Tunnel project, Anzac will be an underground premium station, featuring an island platform with two faces. The station will connect directly to the Anzac Station tram stop, Anzac tram interchange at street level. Major construction commenced in April 2018, and was completed in September 2024, with minor finishing works to continue until its opening in 2025. Domain Interchange
Domain Interchange was a major interchange on the Melbourne tram system. It featured two island platforms with four tracks, and had dedicated turning tracks and through tracks. It was located on St Kilda Road between Domain Road and Park Street, adjacent to Kings Domain, and was one of the busiest interchanges on the system, being used by eight tram routes. A shelter built in 1986 was replaced when the stop was rebuilt in 2013. The stop and interchange was demolished in April 2018, to facilitate the construction of the underground Anzac railway station as part of the Melbourne Metro Rail Project. Z-class Melbourne Tram
The Z-class are single-unit bogie trams that operate on the Trams in Melbourne, Melbourne tram network. Between 1975 and 1983, 230 trams spanning three sub-classes were built by Commonwealth Engineering, Comeng, Dandenong rolling stock factory, Dandenong. The design was based on two similar Gothenburg tram network#Rolling stock, Gothenburg tram models, and a prototype built by the Melbourne & Metropolitan Tramways Board. While the Z1 and Z2-class trams were very similar, the Z3-class had significant design changes. Since introduction they have had a variety of liveries, and modifications. Trams in Melbourne, Melbourne's tram network is a major form of transportation in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, consisting of 24 tram routes. The system is owned by Public Transport Victoria. Yarra Journey Makers (trading as Yarra Trams), a joint venture of Transdev and John Holland Group, operates the network. The tram network consists of over 250 kilometres (160 miles) of Track duplication, duplicated track in all 24 routes, making it the largest tram network in the world.
