Mel's Diner
''Alice'' is an American sitcom television series that aired on CBS from August 31, 1976, to March 19, 1985. The series is based on director Martin Scorsese's 1974 film ''Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore''. The show stars Linda Lavin in the title role, a widow who moves with her young son to start life over again and finds a job working at a roadside diner in Phoenix, Arizona. Most of the episodes revolve around events at Mel's Diner, where Alice is employed. With more than 200 episodes over nine seasons, ''Alice'' was the longest-running American television sitcom to feature a woman in the starring role until it was surpassed by ''Roseanne'' in 1996. Mel's Drive-In
Mel's Drive-In refers to two American restaurant chains, the successors of a chain founded in 1947 by Mel Weiss and Harold Dobbs in San Francisco, California. The original chain operated until the 1970s. A new generation of Mel's Drive-In restaurants then began opening in the 1980s, with the business split into two separate groups: one doing business under the original Mel's Drive-In name and the other under the name Original Mels. Mel's Drive-In became closely associated with the 1973 film ''American Graffiti'' after one of its restaurants was used as a filming location. The film's distributor, Universal Studios, Inc., Universal Studios, licensed the Mel's Drive-In brand to recreate the restaurants in its Universal Parks & Resorts, Universal theme parks. The signage and menus on the original Mel's Diners did not have a possessive apostrophe in the name, as would be expected. Mel's Hole
Mel's Hole is, according to an urban legend, a "bottomless pit" near Ellensburg, Washington. Claims about it were first made on the radio show ''Coast to Coast AM'' in 1997 by a guest calling himself Mel Waters. Later investigation revealed no such person was listed as residing in that area, and no credible evidence has been given that the hole ever existed. Claims The legend of the bottomless hole started on February 21, 1997, when a man identifying himself as Mel Waters appeared as a guest on ''Coast to Coast AM'' with Art Bell. Waters claimed that he owned rural property west of Ellensburg in Kittitas County, Washington, that contained a mysterious hole. According to Waters, the hole had an unknown depth. Of this area, 42.6% is used for agricultural purposes, while 29.3% is forested.
