Meindert Talma
Meindert Talma (born 2 November 1968 in Surhuisterveen) is a Dutch lo-fi singer and keyboardist whose backing band goes by the name of "the Negroes." He sings in Dutch as well as Frisian and English and has released seven albums . Unexpectedly the record was a hit and Talma became popular in the alternative music scene in Groningen. Two years later, Talma and a group of friends (the Negroes) recorded a debut album, ''Hondert punten'' ("Hundred points"). In 1998, the follow-up album ''Ferhûddûker'' was recorded in the Pet Sound studio and produced by Jan Heddema. The album was released by Hooverflag (De Konkurrent). Peter Pontiac
Peter Pontiac (born ''Peter J.G. Pollmann''; 28 April 1951 – 20 January 2015) was a Dutch cartoonist, comics artist and illustrator. He was the winner of the 1997 Stripschapprijs. Pontiac died on 20 January 2015, after a lengthy battle with severe liver disease. Biography He was known for leading a life in the fringe and was addicted to heroin for several years, something he drew autobiographical comics about as well. He illustrated various album covers for bands like Parados, Thud!, The Bouncers, The Schizofrenics, Dead Moon and bootleg singles by Lou Reed and Bob Dylan. At the time of his death, Pontiac was working on a new graphic novel (STYX of de zesplankenkoorts) about his disease and awaiting death. He got money for this project through crowd funding. Lettering For Oog & Blik he did the lettering of the Dutch editions of Art Spiegelman's ''Maus'' and Robert Crumb's ''Introducing Kafka''. Spinvis
Spinvis is a Dutch one-man music project centred on Erik de Jong (born 2 February 1961). Using experimental lo-fi music, de Jong released his debut album as Spinvis in 2002 at the age of 41. He has recorded five top-ten albums in the Netherlands, and his sixth studio album ''7.6.9.6.'' reached number one on the Dutch Albums Chart. Additionally, his self-titled debut album and live album ''Nieuwegein aan Zee'' were certified Gold in the Netherlands. In 2007, Spinvis was awarded the Popprijs, given annually to the artist who made the most important contribution to Dutch pop music last year. Lo-fi (also typeset as lofi or low-fi; short for low fidelity) is a music or production quality in which elements usually regarded as imperfections in the context of a recording or performance are present, sometimes as a deliberate stylistic choice. The standards of sound quality (fidelity) and music production have evolved over the decades, meaning that some older examples of lo-fi may not have been originally recognized as such. Lo-fi began to be recognized as a style of popular music in the 1990s, when it became alternately referred to as DIY music (from "do it yourself"). Frisian Languages
The Frisian languages ( or ) are a closely related group of West Germanic languages, spoken by about 400,000 Frisian people, who live on the southern fringes of the North Sea in the Netherlands and Germany.
