''Artists in Isabey's Studio'' () is a painting of 1798 by the French artist Louis-Léopold Boilly, showing many artists who were influential under the French Directory.Eitner p.7 It was displayed with 529 other works at the Paris Salon of 1798, which was mainly noted for Gérard's ''Cupid and Psyche''. It is now in the Louvre, whose collections it entered in 1911. Louis-Léopold Boilly
Louis-Léopold Boilly (; 5 July 1761 – 4 January 1845) was a French painter and draftsman. A creator of popular portrait paintings, he also produced a vast number of genre paintings documenting French middle-class social life. His life and work spanned the eras of Ancien Régime, monarchical France, the French Revolution, the First French Empire, Napoleonic Empire, the Bourbon Restoration in France, Bourbon Restoration and the July Monarchy. His 1800 painting ''Un Trompe-l'œil'' introduced the term ''trompe-l'œil'' ("trick the eye"), applied to the technique that uses realistic imagery to create the optical illusion that the depicted objects exist in three dimensions, though the "unnamed" technique itself had existed in Greek and Roman times. Antoine-Denis Chaudet
Antoine-Denis Chaudet (; 3 March 1763 – 19 April 1810) was a French sculptor who worked in the neoclassical style. He was born and died in Paris. Life and work He began his artistic training as a student of Jean-Baptiste Stouf at the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture. In 1784 his bas-relief, ''Joseph Sold into Slavery by His Brothers'', was awarded the Prix-de-Rome. This enabled him to study at the French Academy in Rome, where he spent four years studying ancient sculpture. On his return to France in 1789, he was admitted to the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture. In 1801 he took part in illustrating an edition of the collected works of Jean Racine, published by Firmin Didot. Most of these were Biblical scenes. Anne-Louis Girodet de Roussy-Trioson (; or ''de Roucy''), also known as Anne-Louis Girodet-Trioson or simply Girodet (29 January 17679 December 1824),Long, George. Both of his parents died when he was a young adult. Jean-Joseph-Xavier Bidauld (10 April 1758 – 20 October 1846) was a French painter. A native of the city of Carpentras, Bidauld first studied painting with his elder brother, Jean-Pierre-Xavier Bidauld, Jean-Pierre-Xavier, in Lyons. In 1783 he traveled to Paris, while there, he won the favor of an art dealer and perfume seller named Dulac. This latter subsidized Bidauld's travels in Italy, where for five years he lived in Rome and traveled widely. Most of his contacts within the French artistic community in that city were history painting, history painters. In 1790 Bidauld returned to Paris; in 1791 he entered the Salon (Paris), Salon for the first time. Thereafter he participated regularly. Charles Meynier
Charles Meynier (1763 or 1768, Paris – 1832, Paris) was a French painter of historical subjects in the late 18th and early 19th century. He was a contemporary of Antoine-Jean Gros and Jacques-Louis David. Biography Meynier was the son of a tailor. Already at a young age he was trained by Pierre-Philippe Choffard. As a student of François-André Vincent, Meynier won the second prize in the 1789 competition; Anne-Louis Girodet de Roussy-Trioson, Girodet won. He became a member of the Académie de France à Rome. In 1793 he went back to Paris. He made designs for the bas-reliefs and statues on the Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel and the Paris Bourse. From 1816 onward, he was a member of the Académie des Beaux-Arts de l'Institut de France, Académie des Beaux-Arts. In 1819 Meynier was appointed teacher at the École des Beaux-Arts. François-Joseph Talma
François Joseph Talma (15 January 1763 – 19 October 1826) was a French actor. Life He was born in Paris. His father, a dentist, moved to London, and saw that his son received a good English education. François Joseph returned to Paris, where for a year and a half he himself practised dentistry. His predilection for the stage was cultivated in amateur theatricals, and on 21 November 1787 he made his debut at the Comédie-Française as Seide in Voltaire's ''Mahomet''. His efforts from the first won approval, but for a considerable time he only obtained secondary parts. It was as a juvenile lead that he first came to prominence, and he only gradually achieved his unrivalled position as the exponent of strong and concentrated passion. Jean-Thomas Thibault (20 November 1757 - 27 June 1826) was a French painter and architect. Life Born in Montier-en-Der, he studied at the École des beaux-arts de Paris in Étienne-Louis Boullée's studio from 1780 to 1786. He also studied under Pierre-Adrien Paris. He self-funded a trip to Rome between 1786 and 1790, where he befriended Charles Percier and Pierre-François-Léonard Fontaine. During the First French Empire he was commissioned to restore the Hague Palace and Amsterdam's town hall. He died in Paris. Nicolas Anselme Baptiste, more commonly known as Baptiste aîné (June 18, 1761 – December 1, 1835), was a French actor. He was born in Bordeaux, the elder son of Joseph François Anselme, a popular actor. His mother played leading parts in tragedy, and both his parents enjoyed the protection of Voltaire and the friendship of Lekain. It was probably under the auspices of the latter that Nicolas Anselme made his first appearance as de Belloy in ''Gaston et Bayard''; and shortly afterwards, under the name of Baptiste, he made a contract to play young lover parts at Arras, where he also appeared in opera and even in pantomime.
