Medalla D'Honor Del Parlament De Catalunya
The Medalla d'Honor del Parlament de Catalunya is a civil honorary distinction awarded by the Parliament of Catalonia since 2000, recognising members of the Parliament and other people living in Catalonia for their careers and contributions to the region, as well as exceptional service. History Recipients of the honour receive a medal in recognition; unlike for example the Catalonia International Prize, which comes with financial award but no designated honour. The medal resembles the Four Bars (which may be recognised as the Senyera with top-to-bottom stripes) and was based on a design created by in 1984. In 2000, goldsmith adapted the design so it could be produced as medals. In the first year it was awarded, the honour was bestowed upon the Parliament of Catalonia's former presidents, as well as Desmond Tutu, an esteemed guest to the region. Francesc Vendrell i Vendrell (15 June 1940 – 27 November 2022) was a Spanish Catalan diplomat. Biography Vendrell got a Bachelor's degree in law at the University of Barcelona, continued studying at King's College in London and graduated in modern history at the University of Cambridge. He became director of the Academy of International Law in The Hague in 1979. In 1968 he joined the diplomatic corps of the UN, where he was appointed head of the documentation services of the general secretariat for Europe and America from 1987 to 1992. Among other positions in the high body, he has been the personal representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in the peace processes of El Salvador and Nicaragua (1989–1991), Guatemala (1990–1992) and East Timor (1999). Manel Esteller (Sant Boi de Llobregat, Barcelona, Catalonia, 1968) graduated in medicine from the University of Barcelona in 1992, where he also obtained his doctorate, specializing in the molecular genetics of endometrial carcinoma, in 1996. Concepció Ferrer Casals (born 27 January 1938) is a Spanish philologist, teacher and politician, the Second Deputy Defender of the People of Spain since 2012. Biography With a licentiate in Romance Philology from the University of Barcelona, since the 1970s Concepció Ferrer has lived in Figueres, where she has been a professor of contemporary literature. Josep Maria Carreras Coll (; born 5 December 1946), better known as José Carreras (, ), is a Catalan operatic tenor from Spain who is particularly known for his performances in the operas of Donizetti, Verdi and Puccini. Born in Barcelona, he made his debut on the operatic stage at 11 as Trujamán in Manuel de Falla's '' El retablo de Maese Pedro'', and went on to a career that encompassed over 60 roles, performing in the world's leading opera houses and on numerous recordings. Carme Ruscalleda i Serra (, born in 1952) is the renowned Spanish chef of the restaurant Sant Pau in Sant Pol de Mar, near Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. The Nova Cançó (, meaning in English "The New Song") was an artistic movement that promoted Catalan music in Francoist Spain. The movement sought to normalize use of the Catalan language in popular music and denounced the injustices in Francoist Spain.
