Joseph Mears
Joseph Theophilus "JT" Mears (1871 – October 1935), was an English businessman, most notable for co-founding Chelsea Football Club. He was born in 1871 in Hammersmith, London, the elder son of Joseph Mears, a builder. In 1896, Mears and his brother Gus Mears, Gus purchased the Stamford Bridge (stadium), Stamford Bridge Athletics Ground and went on to found Chelsea Football Club in 1905. Though he was never chairman, Joseph was the "dominant influence" at the club after the death of his brother in 1912 with his son, Joe Mears, Joe, and grandson, Brian Mears, Brian, both later serving as chairman of the football club. In 1907, Mears acquired the business of the Thames Electric & Motor Launch Co at Eel Pie Island and he went on to build up a large fleet of passenger launches on the River Thames, Thames. Ainslie Dixon Meares (3 March 1910 – 19 September 1986) was an Australian psychiatrist, scholar of hypnotism, psychotherapist, authority on stress and a prolific author who lived and practised in Melbourne. Early life Ainslie Meares was born in Malvern, Victoria, on 3 March 1910, the eldest son of medical practitioner Albert George Meares, (1875–1928), and Eva Gertrude Meares (1875–1926) (née Ham), who were married on 14 July 1903. He married Bonnie Sylvia Byrne on 18 June 1934. Meares was educated at Melbourne Grammar School, where he boxed and played tennis, at Trinity College, and at the University of Melbourne, from which he graduated with a Bachelor of Agricultural Science degree in 1934, and a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery degree in 1940. Thomas Mears
Thomas Mears (c. 1775 – October 16, 1832) was a businessman and political figure in Upper Canada. Life and work Thomas Mears was born in the Thirteen Colonies in about 1775. He settled in West Hawkesbury Township. He set up a sawmill and gristmill on the Ottawa River in that area with David Pattee, which later became the basis for the town of Hawkesbury. He was named justice of the peace in the Eastern District in 1806 and in the Ottawa District in 1816. He was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Upper Canada for Prescott in 1808 and was reelected in 1812. He was named sheriff in the Eastern District in 1816. Around 1811, Mears and Pattee's timber operations were taken over by George and William Hamilton when they were unable to deliver goods to repay advances paid by the Hamiltons. Richard Goldsmith Meares (1780–1862) was an early landholder and public official at the Swan River Colony in Western Australia. Early life Richard, born April 1780, was the son of William Meares of Killinboy, County Westmeath, and Elizabeth Goldsmith; his family's background was Anglo-Irish, his father's businesses were concerned with wine. He attended the Royal Academy to pursue an early interest in art, but a career as an officer in the British Army began after the outbreak of war with France.
