McDermott or MacDermott is an Irish surname and the anglicised version of Mac Diarmada (also spelled Mac Diarmata), the surname of the ruling dynasty of Moylurg, a kingdom that existed in Connacht from the 10th to 16th centuries. The last ruling king was Tadhg mac Diarmata, who ruled until 1585. As a modern day surname, McDermott is mostly found in western Ireland and County Roscommon. David McDermott
David Anthony McDermott (born 6 February 1988) is an English professional footballer who plays as a winger. He played in the Football League for Walsall. Career Walsall Born in Stourbridge, West Midlands, McDermott progressed through the Walsall youth system and he earned a scholarship place ahead of the 2004–05 season. He made his first team debut in a 1–0 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday in the League Cup after entering the game as a substitute in the 77th minute on 25 August 2004, which was his only appearance of the 2004–05 season. He finished the 2005–06 season with three appearances and he signed his first professional contract with Walsall in May 2006. Bobby McDermott
Robert Frederick McDermott (January 7, 1914 – October 3, 1963) was an American professional basketball player in the 1930s and 1940s. He was known as an outstanding shooter and has been called "the greatest long-distance shooter in the history of the game" by contemporaries. His grandson is businessman Bill McDermott. McDermott was named to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1988. Professional basketball career McDermott dropped out of high school after just one year, and was picked up by the Brooklyn Visitations after making a name for himself on the playgrounds. Darren McDermott is an English former professional boxer. He has previously held the English and the Midlands Area middleweight titles. In 2008, he challenged for the British title and in 2009 challenged for the Commonwealth title. Craig John McDermott (born 14 April 1965) is a former Australian cricketer. Between 1984 and 1996 he played 71 Tests for Australia, taking 291 wickets. Following the end of his playing career, he was the bowling coach for the Australian team for two spells between 2011 and 2016. McDermott was a part of the Australian team that won their first world title during the 1987 Cricket World Cup. Cormac MacDermott (harper)
Cormac MacDermott (year of birth unknown – 26 February 1618), Irish harper and composer, was one of the best-known Irish harpers and a member of the "Royal Musick" (the official band of musicians) at the English court of James I. He was the only Irish composer at this period known to have written in a European Renaissance art music idiom. Life MacDermott may have been a native of Moylurg, northern County Roscommon, whose ruling family were the Mac Diarmata (MacDermott) clan. In 1590, he was employed by Sir Robert Cecil, 1st Earl of Salisbury, for whom he undertook at least five travels to Ireland to exchange personal correspondence between 1603 and 1611. In addition, in October 1605, he was appointed to the Royal Musick in London, the first harper since the death of Blind William More in 1565. Christopher McDermott (born 7 June 1989) is a British handball player. He competed as part of Team GB at the 2012 London Olympic Games. He currently coaches the GB Men's Under 20s. Christopher Stephen McDermott OAM (born 4 November 1963) is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played for the Adelaide Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL), and the Glenelg Football Club and North Adelaide Football Club in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL). He was an inaugural inductee into the South Australian Football Hall of Fame in 2002.
