Seda, Lithuania
Seda () is a list of cities in Lithuania, city in Mažeikiai district municipality, Lithuania. It is south-west of Mažeikiai on the Varduva River. There are two churches in the town. History According to Kazimieras Būga, the name of Seda is of hydronymic origin and was derived from the name of nearby Lake Seda also known as Sedula. Seda was first mentioned in written sources in the 13th century. From the 15th century Seda was famous as a busy trade settlement with Livonia. Plungė District Municipality
Plungė (; Samogitian: ''Plongė''; ) is a city in Lithuania with 17,252 inhabitants. Plunge is the capital of the Plungė District Municipality which has 33,251 inhabitants (2022). Two parts of the city are separated by the Babrungas River and two bridges are built over it. Plungė is known for Plungė Manor and its park, where the Samogitian Art Museum is located. In the Oginskiai manor park stands the Perkūnas oak natural monument. The Lourdes grotto of Plungė was created in 1905 and attracts visitors. Akmenė () is a city in northern Lithuania. Following the discovery of large reserves of limestone and clay in the region, in 1947 construction work began on one of the largest cement production complexes in the Baltic States. A ''seniūnija'' (in English: eldership, elderate, ward, parish, or subdistrict) is the smallest administrative division of Lithuania. An eldership may comprise a very small region consisting of few villages, one single town, or a part of a big city. Elderships vary in size and population depending on their location and nature. Viekšniai ( Samogitian language, Samogitian: ''Vėikšnē'', ''Vekshne'', ) is a list of cities in Lithuania, town in the Mažeikiai district municipality, Lithuania. It is located south-east of Mažeikiai. The etymology of the town's name probably comes from a former lake near Viekšniai. Jewish history The town had a large Jewish population prior to the outbreak of World War 2. At the beginning of the 20th century, there were 3 synagogues, several Jewish primary schools, and a yeshiva. According to the 1897 Russian Census, of the total population of 2,951, 1,646 were Jews. In the summer of 1941, over 400 Jews from the town were murdered in Mažeikiai, along with other Jews of the district.
