A mayor is the highest-ranking official in a municipal government such as that of a city or a town. In many countries, a mayor is the highest-ranking official in a Municipal corporation, municipal government such as that of a city or a town. Worldwide, there is a wide variance in local laws and customs regarding the powers and responsibilities of a mayor as well as the means by which a mayor is elected or otherwise mandated. Depending on the system chosen, a mayor may be the chief executive officer of the municipal government, may simply chair a multi-member governing body with little or no independent power, or may play a solely ceremonial role. ''Mayor Muthanna'' () is a 1969 Indian Kannada-language film directed by Siddalingaiah. The film stars Dr. Rajkumar and Bharathi. The film was Siddalingaiah's debut as a director and actor Dwarkish's first independent production venture who had earlier co- produced the 1966 movie '' Mamatheya Bandhana'' with 2 other people under Thunga Pictures. The sub-plot of the film regarding the salvaging of the sub-standard grain was inspired by the 1886 novel ''The Mayor of Casterbridge'' by Thomas Hardy. However, apart from this small episode, neither any plot point nor any sequence was borrowed from that novel. The movie was remade in Telugu in 1974 as ''Chairman Chalamayya'' starring Chalam. ''Shining Time Station'' is a children's television series jointly created by British television producer Britt Allcroft and American television producer Rick Siggelkow. Richard Wilkins III (commonly referred to as The Mayor) is a fictional character in the fantasy television series ''Buffy the Vampire Slayer'' (1997–2003).
