Maya From Madurai
''Maya from Madurai'' is an Indian play written by Naren Weiss. The play explores the life and death of a drug dealer, and marked the directorial debut of actress Pooja Devariya. It premiered at the 2013 edition of the Short and Sweet Festival in Chennai, India; where it won the Play of the Day award. Three days before script submission, director Devariya called former classmate Weiss and asked him to write something, describing what she had in mind. The play subsequently toured the country as a part of The Park's New Festival in 2013. Naren Weiss
Naren Weiss (born March 15, 1991) is an actor, playwright, and former model. He played Osama bin Laden in Kamal Haasan's film on terrorism '' Vishwaroopam'', Dekker in the ABC series ''Deception'', and is known for his work in theatre in India and the United States. Early life Born in Nassau Bay, 30 minutes outside of Houston, Weiss's family bounced around various places in the U.S. until, at the age of 12, the family migrated to Madras. While finishing his education, he found his love for the stage in several school and college productions, and went on to attend Madras Christian College and Brooklyn College. He is of mixed ethnicity and worked as a model during college, appearing in campaigns for Sprite, Bank of India, The Chennai Silks and on magazine covers like India Today. Pooja Devariya
Pooja Devariya is an Indian film and theatre actress who is known for her works in Tamil and Kannada films. After making her film debut with Selvaraghavan's ''Mayakkam Enna'' (2012), she worked extensively in theatre with the Stray Factory, before returning to films in 2015. Career Pooja made her acting debut in Selvaraghavan's ''Mayakkam Enna'' (2011) portraying Padmini, a friend in Dhanush's gang. Pooja then joined the theatre group Stray Factory and has worked on stage performances and online videos with the company. Short And Sweet (festival)
Short+Sweet is a multi-form arts platform presenting festivals in theatre, dance, music-theatre, comedy and cabaret co-ordinated in multiple counties globally. The unifying feature of all works presented at the festival is they must be no longer than ten-minutes. Their flagship festival is Short+Sweet Theatre Sydney, the largest ten-minute play festival in the world.
