Maxcanú Railway Station
Maxcanú is a train station outside Maxcanú, Yucatán. Tren Maya Andrés Manuel López Obrador announced the Tren Maya project in his 2018 presidential campaign. On 13 August 2018, he announced the complete outline. The new Tren Maya put Maxcanú station on the route connecting San Francisco de Campeche railway station and Teya Mérida railway station. Maxcanú station serves as a station on Section 3 of the Maya Train, in the state of Yucatán Yucatán, officially the Free and Sovereign State of Yucatán, is one of the 31 states which, along with Mexico City, constitute the 32 federal entities of Mexico. Maxcanú
Maxcanú is a large town in the western part of the Mexican state of Yucatán; it also functions as the seat for the Maxcanú Municipality. It is located on Federal Highway 180, approximately south of Mérida. The ancient Maya site of Oxkintok and the caves of Calcehtok are close to Maxcanú, while another ancient Maya settlement, Chunchucmil, is located ca. 25 kilometers west of the town. Facilities available in Maxcanú include: internet cafes; grocery stores; fresh produce market; family restaurants; public telephones; hardware stores; bus station (for connections to Mérida and Campeche); and a "''combi''" taxi stand for travelling to local villages. Tren Maya
Tren Maya (Yucatec Maya: , sometimes also Mayan Train or Maya Train) is a inter-city railway in Mexico that traverses the Yucatán Peninsula. Construction began in June 2020 and the Campeche–Cancún section began operation on December 15, 2023, with the rest of the railway opening in subsequent stages, with the final segment from Escárcega to Chetumal beginning operation on December 15, 2024. The railway begins in Cancún International Airport and travels southwest towards Palenque, Chiapas, via two routes that encircle the peninsula. Teya Mérida is a train station in Kanasín Municipality, Yucatán. History Andrés Manuel López Obrador announced the ''Tren Maya'' project in his 2018 presidential campaign.
