Massachusetts Gubernatorial Election, 2010
The 2010 Massachusetts gubernatorial election was held on November 2, 2010. Incumbent Democratic Governor Deval Patrick was re-elected to a second term. Party primaries were held on September 14, though all four candidates ran unopposed in their respective primaries. Tim Murray, who ran on a ticket with Patrick, was re-elected Lieutenant Governor. This election is the only gubernatorial election since 1994 in which the two major parties did not have a woman on the gubernatorial ticket. The term ticket can mean different things in relation to elections of councils or legislative bodies. First, it may refer to a single election choice which fills more than one political office or seat. Weymouth is a city in Norfolk County, Massachusetts, United States. It is one of 13 municipalities in the state to have city forms of government while retaining "town of" in their official names. Massachusetts Senate
The Massachusetts Senate is the upper house of the Massachusetts General Court, the bicameral state legislature of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The Senate comprises 40 elected members from 40 single-member senatorial districts in the state. All but one of the districts are named for the counties in which they are located (the "Cape and Islands" district covers Dukes, Nantucket, and parts of Barnstable counties). Robert L. Hedlund (born July 12, 1961) is an American businessman and politician serving as the mayor of Weymouth, Massachusetts. He was formerly a member of the Massachusetts Senate representing the Massachusetts Senate's Plymouth and Norfolk district, Plymouth and Norfolk District. Kerry Murphy Healey (born April 30, 1960) is an American politician and educator serving as President Emerita of Babson College. She previously served as the 70th lieutenant governor of Massachusetts from 2003 to 2007 under Governor Mitt Romney. Christy Peter Mihos (June 13, 1949 – March 25, 2017) was an American politician and businessman from Massachusetts. He was an Independent candidate for governor of Massachusetts in 2006. He ran for the Republican nomination for governor in 2010, but did not receive enough votes at the Republican Convention to qualify for the primary ballot. Early life Mihos was born and raised in Brockton, Massachusetts. During his youth, Mihos worked in his family's supermarket. He graduated from Brockton High School and Stonehill College. The 2006 Massachusetts gubernatorial election was held on November 7, 2006. The incumbent Republican Party (United States), Republican governor, Mitt Romney, chose not to seek a second term. Polls had been mixed prior to Romney's announcement, with one poll showing Romney slightly leading Democratic Party (United States), Democratic Attorney General of Massachusetts, Attorney General Thomas Reilly (Massachusetts politician), Tom Reilly and other polls showing Reilly, who was then the Democratic frontrunner, in the lead. Grace Ross
Grace Ross (born June 6, 1961) is an American activist in Massachusetts. Ross was a Democratic candidate for Governor of Massachusetts in 2010 until she withdrew from the race, citing a lack of signatures. Ross is also a former Green-Rainbow Party co-chair and was the 2006 Green-Rainbow Party nominee for Governor. She is from Worcester, Massachusetts. Biography Ross grew up in New York City before coming to Massachusetts to attend Harvard University, where she obtained a BA in psychology and a master's degree in education.
