María De Jesús Patricio Martínez
María de Jesús Patricio Martínez (born 23 December 1963), also known as Marichuy, is a traditional medicine healer and human rights activist in Mexico. Of Nahua descent, she was chosen as "representative indigenous spokeswoman" by National Indigenous Congress (CNI) for the 2018 general election, for which she ran as an independent candidate for the Presidency of Mexico. She was also the first women in Tuxpan to participate in the dance of Los Sonajeros which was a ritual that asked for rain. On 28 May 2017, a congress was held in San Cristóbal de Las Casas, Chiapas, where Marichuy was designated by the CNI as the "representative indigenous spokeswoman" by 840 delegates from 60 indigenous communities of Mexico. The Congress also resolved to choose Marichuy as spokeswoman for the indigenous peoples of Mexico in the 2018 general election. Tuxpan, Jalisco
Tuxpan is a town and municipality in Jalisco, Mexico. Etymology The name "Tuxpan" comes from the Nahuatl word ''tochpan'', a word used to describe where rabbits live or possibly place of abundant rabbits. Some others translate it as a location above the river. Nahua People
The Nahuas ( ) are a Uto-Aztecan languages, Uto-Nahuan ethnicity and one of the Indigenous people of Mexico, with Nahua minorities also in El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica. They comprise the largest Indigenous group in Mexico, as well as the largest population out of any North American Indigenous people group who are native speakers of their respective Indigenous languages of the Americas, Indigenous language.
