Marvel Ultimate Collection, Complete Epic And Epic Collection Lines
The ''Marvel Epic Collection'' is an ongoing line of color trade paperbacks that republish Marvel comics in a uniform trade dress. Announced in April 2013, their stated intention was to collect entire runs of characters or titles as "big fat collections with the best price we can maintain", in similar manner to the discontinued black-and-white ''Essential Marvel''. The series is published out of order, though have a completist goal. Marvel's Senior Vice President of Sales David Gabriel said: "When all is said and done, the Epic volumes will fit seamlessly next to one another on readers' bookshelves, presenting a complete and unbroken run of each title." The original announcement consisted of six titles at the pace of one volume a month, with Gabriel adding: "Marvel's most storied titles – including Amazing Spider-Man, Avengers, Captain America, Fantastic Four, Iron Man and Thor – are going Epic." ''Marvel Feature'' was a comic book showcase series published by Marvel Comics in the 1970s. It was a tryout book, intended to test the popularity of characters and concepts being considered for their own series. The first volume led to the launch of '' The Defenders'' and ''Marvel Two-in-One'', while volume two led to an ongoing '' Red Sonja'' series. Volume one ''Marvel Feature'' was one of three tryout books proposed by Stan Lee after he transitioned from being Marvel Comics' writer and editor to its president and publisher, the others being ''Marvel Spotlight'' and '' Marvel Premiere''. The advantage of such tryout books was that they allowed the publisher to assess a feature's popularity without the marketing investment required to launch a new series, and without the blow to the publisher's image with readers if the new series immediately failed. ''Tales to Astonish'' is the name of two American comic book series, and a One-shot (comics), one-shot comic, all published by Marvel Comics. The primary title bearing that name was published from January 1959 to March 1968. It began as a science-fiction anthology that served as a showcase for such artists as Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko, then featured superheroes during the period fans and historians call the Silver Age of Comic Books. It became ''The Incredible Hulk (comic book), The Incredible Hulk'' with issue No. 102 (April 1968). Its sister title was ''Tales of Suspense''. A second Marvel comic bearing the name, reprinting stories of the undersea ruler the Sub-Mariner, ran 14 issues from December 1979 to January 1981. A superhero one-shot followed in 1994.
