Sir Mark John Spurgeon Allen Order of St Michael and St George, KCMG (born 3 July 1950) is a British diplomat, intelligence officer, and businessman. Early life Mark Allen was born on 3 July 1950. His father, Peter Muir Spurgeon Allen, was headmaster of Cokethorpe School in Oxfordshire. He was educated at the Dragon School, Oxford, and at Downside School, the Roman Catholic public school in Somerset. He then read Arabic and Turkish at Exeter College, Oxford, Exeter College, University of Oxford. Career Allen joined the British Foreign Service, where he worked for 30 years. After studying at the Middle East Centre for Arab Studies, he was posted to Abu Dhabi in 1974. There he developed his love of falconry from his contacts with the Bedouin, to the extent that he wrote a series of books on the subject, including ''Falconry in Arabia'' (1980). Mark Allen (born 22 February 1986) is a Northern Irish professional snooker player from Antrim. He won the European and World Amateur Championship in 2004 and turned professional in 2005. Allen entered the world top 16 after only three seasons. As a student at the University of California, San Diego, Allen used UCSD Pascal to develop a 6502 interpreter for the Pascal language in 1978, along with Richard Gleaves. Mark Johnston-Allen (born 28 December 1968) is an English former professional snooker player. Early life From Bristol, the son of David and older brother of Craig who was also a junior snooker player. Career He won three consecutive Avon County Championships and won the English junior and senior champion prior to turning professional ahead of the 1988-1989 snooker season. He reached the last-16 at the 1989 British Open, recording credible wins over Terry Griffiths and Eugene Hughes, before his run was ended by former world champion Joe Johnson.
