March 1–3, 2018 Nor'easter
The March 1–3, 2018 nor'easter caused major impacts as well as significant coastal flooding in the Northeastern United States, Northeastern, Mid-Atlantic United States, Mid-Atlantic and Southeastern United States. It originated as the northernmost low of a stationary front over the Midwest on March 1, which moved eastward into the Northeast later that night. A new low pressure system rapidly formed off the coast on March 2 as it slowly meandered near the coastline. It peaked later that day and brought hurricane-force winds to coastal New England before gradually moving out to sea by March 3. Producing over of snow in some areas, it was one of the most significant March snowstorms in many areas, particularly in Upstate New York. GOES-16
GOES-16, formerly known as GOES-R before reaching geostationary orbit, is the first of the GOES-R series of Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite, Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellites (GOES) operated by NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). 2017–18 European Windstorm Season
The 2017–2018 European windstorm season was the third instance of seasonal European windstorm naming. France, Spain and Portugal took part in winter storm naming for the first time this season. The season started on 12 September 2017 with the formation of Storm Aileen. It was subsequently marked by many high-impact storms which caused severe loss of life and widespread damage, including Hurricane Ophelia (2017), Ophelia, Storm Eleanor (2018), Eleanor, Storm David, David and Storm Emma (2018), Emma. The season concluded on 17 June 2018 with the dissipation of off-season Storm Hector. March 6–8, 2018 Nor'easter
The March 6–8, 2018 nor'easter caused additional disruption and significant snowfall to the Northeastern United States just days after March 1–3, 2018 nor'easter, another intense nor'easter struck the Mid-Atlantic, hampering recovery efforts from that storm. Forming on March 2 and reaching the Outer Banks late on March 6, as the end phase of a long-tracked winter storm across the country, it rapidly deepened off the Mid-Atlantic coast on March 7 and brought up to of heavy snow, whiteout conditions, and even coastal flooding (though nowhere near the levels seen in the prior nor'easter) to those in the impact zone from the storm, many of whom were still without power from the previous storm less than a week prior. The storm caused up to 1 million people to lose power, and at least two people were confirmed dead due to the storm by March 7.
