Makkah Region
Mecca Province (, ), officially Makkah Province, is one of the 13 provinces of Saudi Arabia. It is the third-largest province by area at and the most populous with a population of 8,557,766 as of 2017, of which 4,041,189 were foreign nationals and 4,516,577 were Saudis. It is located in the historic Hejaz region, and has an extended coastline on the Red Sea. Its capital is Mecca, the holiest city in Islam, and its largest city is Jeddah, which is Saudi Arabia's main port city. The province accounts for 26.29% of the population of Saudi Arabia and is named after the Islamic holy city of Mecca. Historically, the area was inhabited by the Quraysh, the Banu Kinanah and the Thaqif, among other tribes. Part of the Hejaz region, the province has seen several exchanges of power between many Islamic realms within a short period of time. The provinces of Saudi Arabia, also known as regions (), are the 13 first-level administrative divisions of the Saudi Arabia, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Rabigh
Rabigh () is a city and governorate in the Province of Makkah of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, situated on the coast of the Red Sea, around northwest of Mecca in the historic Hejazi region. The city had an estimated population of 180,352 in 2014 and is situated at an elevation of above sea level, close to the border with the Madinah Province. The city dates back to the era before the advent of Islam in the 7th century C.E., and up to the 17th century, was known as ''Al-Juhfah'', or ''Al-Johfah'' (). Red Sea
The Red Sea is a sea inlet of the Indian Ocean, lying between Africa and Asia. Its connection to the ocean is in the south, through the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait and the Gulf of Aden. Khalid Al-Faisal
Khalid bin Faisal Al Saud ( ''Khālid bin Fayṣal Āl Suʿūd''; born 24 February 1940), commonly known as Khalid Al-Faisal, is a Saudi Arabian politician, artist, and poet who is the governor of Makkah Province, in office from 2007 to 2013 and again since 2015. He was the Saudi minister of education from 2013 to 2015. He was also the governor of Asir Province from 1971 to 2007. He served as an adviser to King Salman. The Governor of Makkah Region or Emir of Makkah Region is the head of the Saudi region or ''province'' of Makkah or Mecca and rule it on behalf of the King of Saudi Arabia since its formation on 1926. The Governor or Emir is the high-ranking official of the region and had all powers to shape the region. The governor is appointed by the King of Saudi Arabia to handle the provincial matters.
