Major Adverse Cardiovascular Events
Major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE, or major adverse cardiac events) is a composite endpoint frequently used in cardiovascular research. Despite widespread use of the term in clinical trials, the definitions of MACE can differ, which makes comparison of similar studies difficult. Definition The so-called "classical 3-point MACE" is defined as a composite of nonfatal stroke, nonfatal myocardial infarction, and cardiovascular death. Another study similarly defined MACE as a composite of nonfatal stroke, nonfatal acute coronary syndrome, and death from vascular causes. But another study defines MACE as "CVD events, admission for HF (heart failure), ischemic cardiovascular Vevents, cardiac death". Yet another study defined MACE as "CV death, hospitalization for HF, or myocardial infarction (MI)". Clinical endpoints or clinical outcomes are outcome measures referring to occurrence of disease, symptom, sign or laboratory abnormality constituting a target outcome in clinical research trials. The term may also refer to any disease or sign that strongly motivates withdrawal of an individual or entity from the trial, then often termed a ''humane (clinical) endpoint''. The primary endpoint of a clinical trial is the endpoint for which the trial is powered. Secondary endpoints are additional endpoints, preferably also pre-specified, for which the trial may not be powered. Surrogate endpoints are trial endpoints that have outcomes that substitute for a clinical endpoint, often because studying the clinical endpoint is difficult, for example using an increase in blood pressure as a surrogate for death by cardiovascular disease, where strong evidence of a causal link exists. High-density lipoprotein (HDL) is one of the five major groups of lipoproteins. SGLT2 Inhibitor
SGLT2 inhibitors (also called gliflozins or flozins) are a class of medications that inhibit sodium-glucose transport proteins in the nephron (the functional units of the kidney), unlike SGLT1, SGLT1 inhibitors that perform a similar function in the intestinal mucosa. C-reactive protein (CRP) is an annular (ring-shaped) pentameric protein found in blood plasma, whose circulating concentrations rise in response to inflammation.
