Maison Symphonique De Montréal
The Montreal Symphony House () is a concert hall in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The Montreal Symphony House is located at the corner of de Maisonneuve Boulevard West and Saint Urbain Street, on the northeastern esplanade of Place des Arts in the Quartier des Spectacles. Construction began in May 2009 and the concert hall was inaugurated September 7, 2011. Initial plans were to name the 2,100-seat venue "Adresse symphonique", however the Quebec government announced on opening day that the hall would be the "Maison symphonique". The hall is home to the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, the Metropolitan Orchestra, I Musici de Montreal, Les Violons du Roy and other classical music ensembles. On May 24, 2014, the hall inaugurated a $4,000,000 organ (op.3900) by Casavant Frères. The four manual, 83 rank work contains 6,489 pipes. Saint Urbain Street
Saint Urbain Street () is a major one-way street located in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The original, southernmost section of the street was built by Urbain Tessier (c. 1624–1689), a farmer and carpenter who settled in the area. The name also makes reference to Saint Urbain. In the late 18th and early 19th centuries, the street, now stretching northward, was home to several of Montreal's prominent British and French merchants, notably the explorer Alexander Henry the elder. By the turn of the 20th century, sections of the street were industrialised and became run down, and were settled by Jews, predominantly from Eastern Europe. Writer Mordecai Richler immortalised the Mile End section as a centre of the Jewish community in Montreal, and he documented the life there in novels such as '' St. Urbain's Horseman''. Casavant Frères () is a Canadian organ building company in Saint-Hyacinthe, Quebec, which has been building pipe organs since 1879. As of 2014, the company has produced more than 3,900 organs. Company history Brothers Joseph-Claver (1855–1933) and Samuel-Marie (1859–1929) got their start in organ building in the shop of their father, Joseph Casavant, under his successor Eusèbe Brodeur. Les Violons du Roy is a French-Canadian chamber orchestra based in Quebec City, Quebec. The orchestra's principal venue is the Palais Montcalm in Québec City. The orchestra also performs concerts in Montréal at the Place des Arts, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts and St. James United Church.
