Maindy Centre
Maindy Centre (, formerly known as Maindy Stadium, now also known as Maindy Pool and Cycle Track) is a velodrome and indoor swimming pool facility in the Maindy area of Cardiff, Wales. The velodrome was used in the 1958 British Empire and Commonwealth Games and the swimming pool was opened in 1993. Maindy Stadium opened in 1951. The stadium has previously had an athletics running track, which was transferred from Cardiff Arms Park after the British Empire and Commonwealth Games. It became Cardiff's main athletics stadium until the Cardiff Athletics Stadium was opened in 1989. The stadium has also been used for boxing and Welsh baseball. History The site on which the Maindy Centre stands was gifted by John Crichton-Stuart, 3rd Marquess of Bute, Lord Bute to the people of Cardiff. Maindy Pool & Cycle Track
Maindy (, meaning ''Stone House'') is a district of the city of Cardiff, Wales. Its boundaries are not formally recognised by Cardiff Council, and the district falls within the Cathays (electoral ward), Cathays ward and Gabalfa.
A notable facility in the area is the Maindy Centre consisting of a cycle track and swimming pool. The cycle track was used in the 1958 British Empire and Commonwealth Games.
The area is served by the Capital City Green bus route.

BoxRec
BoxRec or boxrec.com is a website dedicated to holding updated records of professional and amateur boxers, both male and female. It also maintains a MediaWiki-based encyclopedia of boxing. The objective of the site is to document every professional boxer and boxing match from the instigation of the Queensberry Rules up to the present times. Owain Doull
Owain Daniel Doull (born 2 May 1993) is a Welsh people, Welsh road and track cyclist, who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam . Doull specialises in the team pursuit on the track, and won a gold medal in the discipline at the Cycling at the 2016 Summer Olympics – Men's team pursuit, 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro; as a result, he became the first Welsh language, Welsh-speaking athlete to win Olympic gold. Luke Rowe
Luke Rowe (born 10 March 1990) is a British former racing cyclist from Wales, who rode professionally for and its later iterations between 2012 and 2024. Largely deployed as a domestique during his professional career, Rowe took two wins – stage victories at the 2012 Tour of Britain and the 2017 Herald Sun Tour. Rowe represented Wales at the Commonwealth Games at four consecutive Games between 2010 and 2022, and was also a team member of five consecutive Tour de France victories by / riders between 2015 and 2019, which included him being the lanterne rouge of the 2017 Tour de France. Elinor Jane Barker (born 7 September 1994) is a Welsh road and track Cycle sport, racing cyclist, who currently rides for UCI Women's Team . Representing British Cycling, Great Britain in international competitions, Barker is an Olympic champion, a three-time World champion and seven-time European champion in the team pursuit, as well as a three-time World champion in the points and scratch races, a World champion in the madison, a two-time European madison champion and one time European elimination race champion. Matthew Rowe (born 28 April 1988) is a Welsh racing cyclist. Biography Born in Cardiff, Rowe began racing at a young age, initially riding with his parents on a tandem. He began to enjoy cycling and became a member of the Maindy Flyers, based at Maindy Stadium. As a junior, he was a member of British Cycling's Olympic Development Programme, Rowe became the 2005 junior scratch race European champion, and finished eighth in the same event at the junior world championships. Rowe received funding for three to four months from the Dave Rayner fund in 2007. Rowe suffered from Glandular Fever in 2007, and hoping to make his mark on the Premier Calendar, riding for Rapha Condor recycling.co.uk for the 2008 season. Catherine Rachel "Katie" Prankerd (née Curtis; born 1 November 1988) is a Welsh former professional road and track cyclist. Career Born in Cardiff, Prankerd began competing at a young age with the Maindy Flyers children's cycle club before joining Cardiff Ajax. Prankerd set the record for the Tandem Standing Start event on the track along with Alex Greenfield, with a time of 7 minutes 4.424 seconds. The record was set at the Newport Velodrome on 10 June 2004. They also held the Tandem Standing Start event on the track, with a time of 13 minutes 10.421 seconds. Alex Greenfield
Alexandra Greenfield (born 1990) is a Welsh former road and track cyclist from Barry. She began competing at a young age with the Maindy Flyers children's cycle club before joining Cardiff Ajax CC. Greenfield holds the record for the 5 km Tandem Standing Start event on the track along with Katie Curtis, with a time of 7 minutes 4.424 seconds. The record was set in Newport Velodrome on 10 June 2004. She transitioned from 's former technical director and assistant directeur sportif, to be Cycling New Zealand's women's endurance assistant coach by mid-2018. She became the British junior scratch race champion in 2007 as well as the junior European points race champion. British National Derny Championships
The British National Derny Championships are an annual bicycle racing event held in the United Kingdom. The event was originally run as a motor paced event behind the larger stayer motors, but in 2000 a demonstration championship was run using derny bikes, opening the championship up to wider participation. The first official championship took place in 2001 for the Ron Pugsley Trophy. The British Cycling National Derny Paced Championship is run over 30 km. The event was known as the amateur motor paced championships from 1970 to 1993, and simply the motor paced championships from 1994 to 1999; it was held at a distance of 50 km. Geraint Howell Thomas, ( , ; born 25 May 1986) is a Welsh professional racing cyclist who rides for UCI WorldTeam , Wales and Great Britain. He is one of the few riders in the modern era to achieve significant elite success as both a track and road rider, with notable victories in the velodrome, in one-day racing and in stage racing. Eddie Smart
Edward Charles Smart (23 August 1946 – 6 February 2000) was a Welsh cyclist and coach from Cardiff, Wales. He represented Wales at the 1966 Commonwealth Games in Kingston, Jamaica (formally the Empire Games), in the scratch race, kilo, sprint, pursuit and road race. He ran a garage on Maindy Road, opposite the cycle track. Smart coached young riders and was the Welsh Cycling Union's track co-ordinator and member of the Maindy track league committee Steve Jones and Eddie Smart were helpers at the Junior Tour of Wales. They died in a car accident on the M4 in Berkshire. John Richards, the race's organizer a shield to them for the best Welsh rider. It is awarded annually at the Junior Tour of Wales.
