Maharaja College, Arrah
Maharaja College is a constituent college of Veer Kunwar Singh University, Arrah in the Bihar State of India.Maharaja College Official Website https://maharajacollege.ac.in/ It was founded on 13 September 1954. It is one of the oldest co-educational institution of south-west Bihar. Originally it was a part of Magadh University but in 1992 after the establishment of Veer Kunwar Singh University it became the part of it. History The college was founded by Maharaja Bahadur Ram Ran Vijay Prasad Singh in 1954. The land on which it was founded was historically known as JUDGE SAHEB KE KOTHI. Before that in 1857, this land was the center of revolt in Arrah, when 18 British civilians and 50 members of the Bengal Military Police Battalion were fortified for 8 days in the Arrah House by the army of Veer Kunwar Singh. Veer Kunwar Singh University
Veer Kunwar Singh university was established on 22 October 1992 with its headquarters at Arrah, under the ''Bihar University Act 1976'' [as amendment Act 9 of 1992]. It is named after Kunwar Singh, the well-known national hero and a distinguished freedom fighter of 1857. It is in the list of recognized universities under section 2(f) of the ''U.G.C. Act''. Siege Of Arrah
The siege of Arrah (27 July – 3 August 1857) took place during the Indian Mutiny (also known as the Indian Rebellion of 1857). It was the eight-day defence of a fortified outbuilding, occupied by a combination of 18 civilians and 50 members of the Bengal Military Police Battalion, against 2,500 to 3,000 mutinying Bengal Native Infantry sepoys from three regiments and an estimated 8,000 men from irregular forces commanded by Kunwar Singh, the local zamindar or chieftain who controlled the Jagdishpur estate. An attempt to break the siege failed, with around 290 casualties out of around 415 men in the relief party. Shortly afterwards, a second relief effort consisting of 225 men and three artillery guns—carried out despite specific orders that it should not take place—dispersed the forces surrounding the building, suffering two casualties, and the besieged party escaped. Pawan Singh (popularly known as Powerstar) (born 5 January 1986) is an Indian politician, playback singer, actor, music composer, stage performer. He is known for his works in Bhojpuri Film Industry. Arrah (also transliterated as Ara) is a city and a municipal corporation in Bhojpur district, India, Bhojpur district (formerly known as Shahabad district) in the Indian state of Bihar.
