Mac (computer)
Mac is a brand of personal computers designed and marketed by Apple Inc., Apple since 1984. The name is short for Macintosh (its official name until 1999), a reference to the McIntosh (apple), McIntosh apple. The current product lineup includes the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro laptops, and the iMac, Mac Mini, Mac Studio, and Mac Pro desktops. Macs are currently sold with Apple's UNIX-based macOS operating system, which is Proprietary software, not licensed to other manufacturers and exclusively Pre-installed software, bundled with Mac computers. This operating system replaced Apple's original Macintosh operating system, which has variously been named System, Mac OS, and Classic Mac OS. Djay (software)
djay is a digital music mixing software program for DJs on macOS, Microsoft Windows, iOS, Android, visionOS, and Meta Quest created by the German company algoriddim. It allows playback and mixing of digital audio files with a user interface that tries to simulate the concept of " two turntables and a microphone" on a computer. Before the commercial release in November 2007, djay had initially been released as freeware in June 2006. In December 2010 the software was also released for the iPad, and subsequently for iPhone and iPod Touch in March 2011. Its interface consists of two turntables, a mixer and a music library showing songs and playlists from iTunes. djay for iPad received an Apple Design Award in 2011. Max, also known as Max/MSP/Jitter, is a visual programming language for music and multimedia developed and maintained by San Francisco-based software company Cycling '74. Over its more than thirty-year history, it has been used by composers, performers, software designers, researchers, and artists to create recordings, performances, and installations. The Max program is modular, with most routines existing as shared library, shared libraries. Jaikoz
Jaikoz is a Java program used for editing and mass tagging music file tags. Jaikoz generates acoustic fingerprints from music files using the AcoustId service, it can then look up the metadata from MusicBrainz using the AcoustId, additionally it can match based on metadata to MusicBrainz or Discogs. Matching is first applied at album level, falling back to track level where a match at album level could not be made. This allows Jaikoz to automatically fix most of a users song collection. Jaikoz uses a relatively unusual spreadsheet metaphor for both viewing and editing data, and allows editing of over fifty fields using this spreadsheet interface, the underlying jaudiotagger tag library is released under LGPL and is used by various Java applications. Ixi Software
ixi software is an open source experimental project concerned with building musical instruments where the interface is at the same time a meta-composition. A CD ripper is software that ripping, extracts raw digital audio in Compact Disc Digital Audio format tracks on a compact disc to standard computer sound files, such as WAV or MP3. A more formal term used for the process of ripping audio CDs is digital audio extraction (DAE). Cog (software)
Cog is an open source audio player for macOS. The basic layout is a single-paned playlist interface with two retractable drawers, one for navigating the user's music folders and another for viewing audio file properties, like bitrate. Along with supporting most audio formats compatible with macOS's Core Audio API, Cog supports a wide array of other audio formats, along with their metadata, which are otherwise unsupported on macOS. In April 2006, Cog joined other Mac OS X audio software Tag and Max in an effort by the respective authors to consolidate Mac OS X open source audio software on the internet. Subsequently, the Cog website was redesigned to Tag and Max's website design, and its forums were also moved to the Tag and Max Forums. beaTunes is a commercial software package for Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X, developed and distributed by tagtraum industries incorporated. The software has a free trial and costs $34.95. Features beaTunes was originally designed as a companion app to iTunes that can detect and edit the BPM in music from iTunes. Since version 3, beaTunes is not dependent on iTunes anymore and supports harmonic mixing and Beatmixing through BPM and key detection. It can also correct and update information about music files, remove duplicates, create playlists, correct inconsistent artist names, and add key and volume balancing. It supports MP3 and AAC formats. Keys are displayed in either their musical notation or in Open Key Notation. Audio Hijack
Rogue Amoeba Software, Inc. is a software company that produces audio software, specializing in applications for audio capture for the Macintosh platform. Rogue Amoeba's best-known products are Audio Hijack and Audio Hijack Pro (both now known simply as Audio Hijack). The Audio Hijack programs allow for users to capture and record audio from any program running under macOS. The Pro version adds support for VST, Audio Unit, and LADSPA plugins, among other features. Other software by Rogue Amoeba includes Nicecast, Airfoil, and Fission. Nicecast combines Audio Hijack's ability to capture audio with the open source Icecast streaming media system to enable users to broadcast audio from any program over the internet. MuseScore Studio (branded as MuseScore before 2024) is a Free and open-source software, free and open-source music notation program for Microsoft Windows, Windows, macOS, and Linux under the Muse Group, which owns the associated online score-sharing platform MuseScore.com and a freemium mobile score viewer and playback app. History MuseScore was created as a Fork (software development), fork of the MusE sequencer's codebase. Overture is a music notation (scorewriter) program for Windows and Macintosh platforms, published and developed by Sonic Scores. While Overture is primarily a scorewriter program, it also allows editing the score's MIDI audio playback data in the manner of sequencer and digital audio workstation (DAW) software.
