Significant smaller groups of Turkish speakers also exist in Germany, Austria, Bulgaria, North Macedonia, Greece, other parts of Europe, the South Caucasus, and some parts of Central Asia, Iraqi Turkmen, Iraq, and Syrian Turkmen, Syria. Turkish is the List of languages by total number of speakers, 18th-most spoken language in the world. To the west, the influence of Ottoman Turkish language, Ottoman Turkish—the variety of the Turkish language that was used as the administrative and literary language of the Ottoman Empire—spread as the Ottoman Empire expanded. Air-independent Power
Air-independent propulsion (AIP), or air-independent power, is any marine propulsion technology that allows a non-nuclear submarine to operate without access to atmospheric oxygen (by surfacing or using a snorkel). AIP can augment or replace the diesel-electric propulsion system of non-nuclear vessels. Modern non-nuclear submarines are potentially stealthier than nuclear submarines; although some modern submarine reactors are designed to rely on natural circulation, most naval nuclear reactors use pumps to constantly circulate the reactor coolant, generating some amount of detectable noise. Non-nuclear submarines running on battery power or AIP, on the other hand, can be virtually silent. While nuclear-powered designs still dominate in submergence times, speed, range and deep-ocean performance, small, high-tech non-nuclear attack submarines can be highly effective in coastal operations and pose a significant threat to less-stealthy and less-maneuverable nuclear submarines. AIP ...

Attack Submarine
An attack submarine or hunter-killer submarine is a submarine specifically designed for the purpose of attacking and sinking other submarines, surface combatants, and merchant vessels. In the Soviet Navy, Soviet and Russian Navy, Russian navies they were and are called "multi-purpose submarines". They are also used to protect friendly surface combatants and Ballistic missile submarine, missile submarines. Some attack subs are also armed with submarine-launched cruise missile, cruise missiles, increasing the scope of their potential missions to include land targets. Attack submarines may be either nuclear marine propulsion, nuclear-powered or diesel–electric ("conventionally") powered. In the United States Navy hull classification symbol, naming system, and in the equivalent NATO system (STANAG 1166), nuclear-powered attack submarines are known as SSN (hull classification symbol), SSNs and their anti-submarine warfare, anti-submarine (ASW) diesel–electric predecessors are SSK ...

MILGEM Project
The MILGEM project ''('' Turkish'': Milli Gemi Projesi;'' English'': National Ship Project)'' is a national warship program of the Republic of Turkey. Managed by the Turkish Navy, the project aims at developing multipurpose corvettes, frigates and destroyers that can be deployed in a range of missions, including reconnaissance, surveillance, early warning, anti-submarine warfare, surface-to-surface and surface-to-air warfare, and amphibious operations. As of 2023, the MILGEM project covers four anti-submarine warfare corvettes, one ELINT corvette, eight multipurpose frigates, 10 Hisar class OPVs as well as eight anti-air warfare destroyers destined for the Turkish Navy; four s for the Pakistan Navy; and two Ada class corvettes for the Ukrainian Navy. The name of the project is derived from the phrase "National Ship" in Turkish – ''Milli Gemi''. History In mid 1990s the Turkish Navy was researching national resources to design, develop and construct a completel ...

TF-2000-class Destroyer
The TF-2000-class destroyer is a projected anti-air warfare guided-missile destroyer currently undergoing development by the Turkish Naval Institute. The class will provide survivability in the presence of aerial threat and also support mission functions such as command, control, and communications, reconnaissance, early warning, surface warfare, anti-submarine warfare and electronic warfare. Moreover, once in service, the TF-2000s are slated to be an integral part of Türkiye's expeditionary strike groups centered around the TCG ''Anadolu'' LHD and the country's future ''MUGEM''-class aircraft carriers. The construction of the first ''TF-2000''-class destroyer, the first ''MUGEM''-class aircraft carrier, and the first ''MILDEN''-class submarine began in the same day, on January 2, 2025. The first ''TF-2000''-class destroyer and the first ''MUGEM''-class aircraft carrier are being built at the Istanbul Naval Shipyard, while the first ''MILDEN''-class submarine is being bui ...

MUGEM-class Aircraft Carrier
The MUGEM-class aircraft carrier is an initiative by the Turkish Navy to build a fully indigenous aircraft carrier. MUGEM is a Turkish acronym for , meaning "National Aircraft Carrier". The construction of the first MUGEM-class aircraft carrier started on 2 January 2025. Development Plans for constructing a large Turkish aircraft carrier were first announced in April 2023 by the president of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who held talks with companies from Spain and the United Kingdom on the issue. Contrary to earlier assumptions and news reports by the media, it was later revealed that the future aircraft carrier would not be a larger version of , but a completely new design. On 15 February 2024, the Design and Projects Office of the Turkish Navy announced that it will be a STOBAR aircraft carrier with an overall length of , beam of , draught of , and displacement of . It is to have a COGAG propulsion system and a maximum speed of more than . In terms of dimensions (length ...

Submarines Of Turkey
A submarine (often shortened to sub) is a watercraft capable of independent operation underwater. (It differs from a submersible, which has more limited underwater capability.) The term "submarine" is also sometimes used historically or informally to refer to remotely operated vehicles and robots, or to medium-sized or smaller vessels (such as the midget submarine and the wet sub). Submarines are referred to as ''boats'' rather than ''ships'' regardless of their size. Although experimental submarines had been built earlier, submarine design took off during the 19th century, and submarines were adopted by several navies. They were first used widely during World War I (1914–1918), and are now used in many navies, large and small. Their military uses include: attacking enemy surface ships (merchant and military) or other submarines; aircraft carrier protection; blockade running; nuclear deterrence; stealth operations in denied areas when gathering intelligence and doing reconna ...
