Lowell High School is a single-campus public high school located in downtown Lowell, Massachusetts, United States. The school is a part of Lowell Public Schools. The mascot is the Red Raider and the colors are maroon & gray. Current enrollment is over 3,000 students. History Lowell, Massachusetts was incorporated as a town in 1826 and Lowell High School opened shortly after in 1831. One of its earliest homes was a small brick building on Middlesex Street owned by the Hamilton Manufacturing Company. Lowell High School was the first and remains the oldest desegregated public high school in the United States; African American Caroline Van Vronker was a student at Lowell High School in 1843, at a time when every other public high school in the United States was segregated. Lowell High School is a public school located in Vergennes Township, Michigan, United States, with a Lowell postal address. By 1992 the school district chose the Steve Wittenbach plot as the current high school location, which in turn helped gift a gas franchise to Grattan Township. Athletics Lowell High School is a member of the Michigan High School Athletic Association. It is A Division II school, and all of its teams currently play within the Ottawa-Kent (O.K.) White League. Lowell's nickname is the Red Arrows, named for the 32nd Red Arrow Infantry in World War II. When Lowell opened, it was the first school in Michigan to have floodlights illuminating their football field for night games. Lowell's biggest athletic rival is East Grand Rapids. Lowell is a small city in Gaston County, North Carolina, United States, located east of Gastonia. The population was 3,526 at the 2010 census. Geography Lowell is located at (35.267346, -81.101210). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of , of which , or 0.21%, is water. The South Fork Catawba River borders Lowell on the north, and the city is part of the Cramerton Watershed. History Lowell was incorporated in 1879. It was named after Lowell, Massachusetts, in hopes the city would become a similar textile center. The settlement dates back to 1848, when the Woodlawn Mill was built on the South Fork Catawba River. When grading was done for the Atlanta and Richmond Air-Line Railway in 1870 and a small depot was built in the community, it was given the name "Wright's Station", because the nearest resident was William Wright. Lowell High School is a co-educational, public high school in San Francisco, California. History 1853-1893 In 1853, Colonel Thomas J. Nevins, San Francisco's first superintendent of schools, broached the idea of a free high school for boys and a seminary for girls. It took three years for Nevins to persuade the Board of Education that a high school was necessary, and a resolution was passed on July 10, 1856, to establish a San Francisco High School and Ladies' Seminary. Six days later, however, the resolution was rescinded on the grounds that a high school could not legally be part of the San Francisco Common Schools; opponents in the city saw no need for an education beyond the eighth grade funded by the public. A simple name change from the proposed ''San Francisco High School and Ladies' Seminary'' to the ''Union Grammar School'' appeased those who had opposed the creation of a high school. Lowell High School was a public high school in the Fullerton Joint Union High School District from September 1961 until June 1980, when it was closed because of declining student enrollment. It was a four-year institution, with students coming primarily from Rancho-Cañada and Starbuck Junior High schools. The school athletic name was the Patriots, and its mascots were known as Johnny Patriot and Janie Patriot. Campus information Lowell High School was located on 16200 E. Amber Valley Drive, Whittier, CA 90604. The site was purchased and now occupied by Southern California University of Health Sciences in 1981. The site is , about 400m per side.
