Bothwell Castle 1997 D
Bothwell is a conservation village in the South Lanarkshire council area of Scotland. It lies on the north bank of the River Clyde, adjacent to Uddingston and Hamilton, east-south-east of Glasgow city centre. Description and history An ancient settlement which was once primarily a mining village, and earlier the site of the Battle of Bothwell Bridge in 1679, Bothwell is an affluent commuter town that has attracted a number of local celebrities including several professional footballers. Owing to a steady rise in property prices, Bothwell is one of Glasgow's most prosperous satellites. In 2019, "Earls Gate" which overlooks Bothwell Castle was named Greater Glasgow's most expensive street, with an average price tag of £1,125,000. Braidwood, Lanarkshire
Braidwood is a small village near Carluke, in South Lanarkshire, Scotland. The medieval barony of Braidwood included the Tower of Hallbar. Braidwood House, former seat of Lord Clydesmuir, is one of the major local landmarks. Over the years it has been a home for sufferers of cerebral palsy run by Capability Scotland and is now home to the South of Scotland offices of the Forestry Commission. Blantyre ( or ; gd, Baile an t-Saoir) is a town and civil parish in South Lanarkshire, Scotland, with a population of 16,900. It is bounded by the River Clyde to the north, the Rotten Calder to the west, the Park Burn to the east (denoting the boundary with the larger adjoining town of Hamilton) and the Rotten Burn to the south. Blackwood is a village which borders Kirkmuirhill, near Lanark in the central belt of Scotland. It has a few small shops, a Roman Catholic church and a couple of primary schools. Location Blackwood sits adjacent to the M74 motorway - Scotland's main arterial route South to England - but remains a quiet village and a much sought-after place to stay. Birniehill
Birniehill is an area of the Scottish new town East Kilbride, in South Lanarkshire. It lies southeast of the Town Centre, south of St Leonards and northeast of The Murray. The northbound exist of Birniehill roundabout (which in common with four others in the centre of East Kilbride has underpasses for pedestrians and cyclists at each corner and a sunken landscaped area at its centre) is the start point of the A725 road (known as the 'Kingsway' within the town) which continues north and then east towards Hamilton and the M74 motorway; the east/west exits of the roundabout are the 'Queensway' (A726) which connects the town to Strathaven further south and to the towns of East Renfrewshire further west. Biggar, South Lanarkshire
Biggar ( gd, Bigear ) is a town and former burgh in South Lanarkshire, Scotland, in the Southern Uplands near the River Clyde on the A702. The closest towns are Lanark and Peebles. Details The town was once served by the Symington, Biggar and Broughton Railway, which ran from the Caledonian Railway (now the West Coast Main Line) at Symington to join the Peebles Railway at Peebles. The station and signal box are still standing but housing has been built on the line running west from the station and the railway running east from the station is a public footpath to Broughton, part of the Biggar Country Path network. The new Biggar & Upper Clydesdale Museum run by the Biggar Museum Trust opened in 2015 and the Biggar Gasworks Museum is the only preserved gas works in Scotland. Barncluith
Barncluith is an area of Hamilton in South Lanarkshire, Scotland. Barncluith forms the south-eastern part of the town, between the urban centre and the Avon Water. It lies either side of Carlisle Road ( A72), which leads out of Hamilton to Chatelherault Country Park, Larkhall and the Clyde Valley. The name derives from "Baron's Cleugh", a cleugh being a ravine. Barncluith Primary School closed in the 1990s. The school building stands at the corner of Miller Street and Townhead Street, and is now the ''Barncluith Business Centre''. Bankend is a village in South Lanarkshire, Scotland. It is located near the villages of Braehead, Coalburn and Cumberhead. Auldhouse is a hamlet in South Lanarkshire, around to the south of the suburban edge of East Kilbride. History The first mention of the hamlet is in the Public Archives is 1602, and it is probable that Auldhouse, or Old House, owes its name to an ancient building located there. It owes its origins to the drove roads in the area. One such road passed through East Kilbride, and went south via Auldhouse and nearby Fieldhead. Recently, with the development of the Benthall Farm housing development, the hamlet is just outwith the suburbs of East Kilbride Politics The area is administered by Auldhouse, Lindsayfield and Chapelton Community Council.
